Working on Abstract Paintings with a Grid Pattern

By Abstractartbylt @artbylt

I'm working on two new abstract paintings with grid patterns.  The first step is to paint the underlying grid, and then to work against it to create more interest.  It's a challenge to have spontaneity and looseness while respecting the grid.

Here's the evolution of the canvas I'm working on now.  Painting Session 1:

Canvas122-2500
   Canvas 122, 48" x 48" acrylic on canvas.

Painting Session 2:

Canvas122-3500
   Canvas #122, 48" x 48" acrylic on canvas.

Painting Session 3:

Canvas122-4500
   Canvas #122, 48" x 48" acrylic on canvas.

As it waxes and wanes between order and disorder, I push and pull to make it work.  Tomorrow is another day in the studio.
