Working in an Abstract Expressionist Mode

By Abstractartbylt @artbylt

I was happy to get back to my abstract expressionist mode with this new acrylic painting.  I used a medium sized brush, applying the paint directly from the tube, letting it mix and blend right on the canvas. I always love working in this spontaneous, improvisational manner.

I began with vivid red orange,  then added some cadmium yellow light above it and some burnt sienna below. Next I filled in a lot of the background with parchment and titanium white.

After that I added cadmium orange, some pthalo green, and burnt umber.  I played with all the colors, working in an overall manner and stepping back periodically to see what was happening.

In the final step, I drew some sketchy lines in the burnt umber, softening them with my finger as I worked.
