Workers’ Organizations Hold New Year’s Address Rallies

DPRK state media reported on 8 January (Tuesday) that the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea [GFTUK] and the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea [UAWK] held rallies “to thoroughly implement the historic tasks set forth by the dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un in his New Year Address.”  The GFTUK assembled at Mansudae Art Studio in front of the equestrian statues of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.  After placing flowers in front the statues, Chairman of the GFTUK Central Committee Hyon Sang Ju delivered a report which was followed by a series of speakers.  According to KCNA, the report and speeches “said that Kim Jong Un’s New Year Address serves as not only an important document indicating a path of sure victories to be followed by the Workers’ Party and people of Korea but a banner of patriotism which arouses all the service personnel and people to great creations and innovations” and the GFTUK members “renewed their resolution to tangibly contribute to bringing about a radical turn in the building of an economic power and the improvement of people’s living standard this year marking the 65th anniversary of the DPRK and the 60th anniversary of the Korean people’s victory in the Fatherland Liberation War (Korean War.”

The UAWK met at the Three Revolutions Exhibition.  Chairman of the UAWK Central Committee Ri Myong Gil delivered a report, followed by speakers representing agricultural workers.  According to KCNA, the rally report and speeches “called for decisively increasing the level of putting the agricultural production on a scientific and intensive basis and attain the goal for grain production without fail” and “called for launching a socialist emulation to bring about a turning phase for the building of an economic power by making leaping progress and innovations in agricultural production.”

On 9 January (Wednesday) DPRK state media reported that members of a railway construction brigade of students and youths held a New Year’s Address meeting in Manp’o, Chagang Province.  It was attended by Chairman of the Kim Il Sung (Socialist) Youth League Central Committee Jon Yong Nam along with local and KISYL officials.  According to KCNA the speaking program “recalled that Kim Jong Un indicated several times last year the orientation and ways for completing the project for reconstructing and repairing northern railways at an early date, true to the behests of leader Kim Jong Il, and showed profound love and trust for the members of the shock brigade,” and “vowed to glorify the honor of the youth shock brigade in the construction this year greeting the 65th birthday of the DPRK and the 60th anniversary of the victorious Fatherland Liberation War (Korean War).”  Speakers at the meeting “called for waging a brisk mass technical innovation movement, true to the party’s idea of breaking through the frontier of latest science and technology and thus devoting all their wisdom and energies to winding up the project earlier than scheduled and putting railroads on a scientific and modern basis” and “called upon all the shock brigade members to wage a dynamic struggle to make this a year of great victory and creation and innovations under the leadership of Kim Jong Un, holding high the banner of Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism.”
