Kikar is reporting that there is a movement of Haredi women demanding that the Haredi parties include a woman on the party lists for Knesset in the upcoming elections.
This group of women is calling on women, I guess anybody but mainly women, to sign on and state that they will refuse to vote for the Haredi parties unless women will be included on the lists.
The women behind the campaign say that female representation will serve and represent the community in a worthy and appropriate way. Haredi women are talented and would be happy to serve its public faithfully....
They also state that it is time they are given the respect they deserve as the main breadwinners and as the ones who support the Torah world on their backs, via worthy female representation in the Knesset.... while women are serving as directors of organizations and institutions, as journalists, laywers and social activists, there is no reason why a worthy woman cannot serve as a representative of the public and fight for the unique needs of this 5% of the Israeli public.
I support them and think it is a good idea, but unlikely to happen.
Will they boycott? I figure that is a bluff, it will be called, and they will not follow through, at least publicly. A better option, in my mind, is for them to open a new political party for Haredi women. I think many men would vote for them, just as many women would. Would they pass the threshold? not likely, but they would be a threat to UTJ and Shas who are worried about losing votes.
