Wisconsin Grandmother Charged in Boy's Accidental Shooting

Local news reports The grandmother of a 4-year-old boy has been charged in his accidental shooting, according to a criminal complaint released Tuesday. 48-year-old Renee Smith was charged with one count of leaving/storing a loaded firearm near a child.  According to the complaint, Smith was holding on to the gun for someone else. She kept the gun in a shoebox underneath a bed. One of the children in the house later found the gun, according to the complaint. While they were playing with it, the gun accidentally went off and Keyontist Moffett sustained a bullet wound to the forehead. If she is convicted, Smith could serve nine months in prison and pay a $10,000 fine.
