Best Of British… Virginia Wade was the last British player to win a singles title at Wimbledon – back in 1977. It marked the 100th anniversary of The Championships and the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. Wade had previously won both the French and the U.S Opens. She competed at Wimbledon in 24 Championships, more than any other player.
