The Wild Life Department yesterday informed the Court of Appeal that the decision to export 100,000 of Toque Macaque monkeys to China will be halted.
Deputy Solicitor General Manohara Jayasinghe appearing for the Wildlife Department informed the court regarding the above when a writ petition filed by several environmental protection organizations and activists challenging the proposed exportation of Toque Macaque monkeys to China came before the Court of Appeal.
President’s Counsel Sanjeeva Jayawardena appearing for the petitioners told court that the petitioners were glad to hear this positive response from the authorities.
Sanjeeva Jayawardena PC further said that Toque Macaque monkeys should not be exported not only to China but to any other country.
