Wifi- How Safe Is Yours?
Do you use Wifi with your mobile phone, tablet or laptop? Do you worry about how safe it may be while you are online? I’m always on my Droid on the go and haven’t given it much thought until I came across this infographic. Of course I’ve never done any online banking on my mobile device as that would send up a red flag. But what about using email, web surfing and social networks on the go?
By the end of this year there will be more mobile connected devices than people on earth.”
Isn’t that fact just amazing?
Privacy and Wifi
Always remember one thing – according to PC World nothing you do on Wifi is private. Anyone else using the same password on the Wifi network can see your communications. Another tip that PC world offers is to use HTTPS for checking your email with Wifi. Gmail does that automatically now on all accounts. If you still are using Yahoo or AOL you may want to set up a Gmail account just for Wifi purposes if you are a heavy user of it. Another great tidbit is if you are paying for Wifi use, it does NOT make it any safer. It just means you are paying for the service. Talented hackers can even modify their wireless card to clone the identity of your wireless card, thus obtaining free access through a commercial hotspot by “piggybacking” on your signals.
