Why You Should Ignore Anyone Who Tells You To Forget About SEO

Posted on the 15 July 2013 by Tom Jamieson @tomjamieson_

SEOIgnore anyone who tells you SEO doesn’t matter because they don’t know what they’re talking about. “Build it and they will come,” they say. It’s alright running your mouth off after you’ve already became successful, but telling the little guy to forget about SEO is like telling a new shop owner to keep the door locked. Apparently people will still brake in and buy your products if they want your stuff badly enough. The sad thing is that people believe these fools.

I don’t want you to believe them because I don’t want you to fail. If you expect people to find your website you can just pack up your bags now and exit the building. I completely understand if you’re a little skeptical, so maybe you need to see why it won’t work. Let’s look at why SEO is still crucial when you’re starting out unless you’re one of the lucky ones. If you think you’re lucky I guess you can stop reading this now.

Build relationships

They tell you to build relationships instead of building backlinks because apparently your new friends will do all the link building for you. Some people can’t build relationships because they’re too shy. Maybe that is why they are trying to build an online business in the first place. Maybe going around building backlinks is easier than trying to form great friendships when you’re first starting out. Building relationships is only easy if you’re great at making friends, but even then it’s not always easy doing it online.

Influential people

Successful people don’t build backlinks because their friends link to them. These friends have massive websites and have been around for years. No wonder they don’t need to build any more backlinks. Do you honestly think you’re going to burst onto the scene and start building relationships will all these influential people. No, you won’t. You will end up building relationships with fellow newbies and the backlinks they give you won’t be worth anything, so then what?

Write epic content

This is got to be one of the stupidest reasons of them all. If you build epic content it will compel influential people to link to you, only it won’t because that is crap too. Those people won’t even see your content because they don’t care. They are too busy running their business to worry about you. Some people will obviously get picked up by a big name, but will you be in the 0.001%? Build it and you will fall asleep while waiting until they come.

Epic content is hard

The last thing we touched on assumed you can write epic content, but what if you can’t? What if you don’t know how to write great articles? Does that mean you won’t be able to become a big success? No, it just means you need to concentrate on SEO while learning how to write epic content. By the time your content starts to get good you will already have lots of people landing on your site because of your SEO efforts and you will grow much quicker.

Write more articles

Instead of becoming a skilled marketer they will tell you to write more articles. Apparently the internet needs more articles nobody will read. If you don’t perform any SEO on your articles they might end up getting a trickle of long-tail traffic from the search engines, but it’s not even worth it and you’re just wasting your time. You can easily use SEO to send hundreds or even thousands of visitors back to each article you write. Then you can start telling newbies to stay away from SEO. That was a joke.
