I would like to take this opportunity to explain why The Secular Jurist devotes so much coverage to racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of bias. Some have insisted that these problems would simply go away if everyone just stopped talking about them. Others have accused this blog of labeling all White people as “bigots” and “racists,” and all Christians as “sexists” and “homophobes.” A few have even charged me with “self-hatred,” in addition to other disparaging indictments, because I am Caucasian and should be “standing with my own kind.”

For the record, we believe that all human beings have prejudicial impulses at least at some point in their lives and that most of us experience them more regularly.
