My absolute favorite new thing is actually rather old fashioned. It has to do with a hot water bottle that I forgot that I had that I found a few weeks ago when I was cleaning up. Basically, since the temperature has dropped, this is what I do every night: About an hour before bed, I boil a kettle of water, fill the bottle, wrap it up in my pajamas and socks and put it in the middle of my bed with the comforter over it.
My next project? Knitting my little bottle a sweater!
My pajamas are warm, my feet are warm, the bed is warm and the thing stays warm ALL night! This new little nightly hot water bottle ritual has helped me in so many ways. First of all, I look forward to it, so I’m getting to bed earlier. Then, because the bed is so warm, I now keep the thermostat at 68 degrees at night, which saves me money. The best part? My insomnia is all but gone. I fall asleep almost immediately and stay down till morning! In fact I now sleep so hard, one of my cats has resorted to throwing things off of my dresser like a cricket bowler until I wake up. (Nothing like waking up to the sound of glass breaking).
common sense tips: I use a funnel to fill my bottle to prevent splashing hot water on my hands…because…ow. Also, you don’t have to keep the bottle in the be with you as you sleep. I do, but I don’t roll around in my sleep either. If you do keep the hot water bottle on the bed with you put it lower on the bed like around your feet. DO NOT PUT A HOT WATER BOTTLE UNDER YOUR PILLOW OR NEAR YOUR FACE. EVER. And you probably wat to keep the bottle away from pets and small children for the same reason.
