Are you looking for ways to lower your energy bills? You are right: given that the cold is showing the tip of its nose and that the budget for heating is exploding, it is therefore high time to save money. Do you know that even with a heater on you can achieve this? Here is some crucial information on the matter.

66% of French household energy expenditure is used for heating. Bills are skyrocketing and with the energy crisis, it is not ready to stop. And although many actions are possible to heat cheaper, in this article, our attention will be focused mainly on the most important expense item: the radiator.

If it is not electric, a radiator works by being connected to a hot water circulation system. The boiler is responsible for maintaining the temperature of the circulating water; it is equipped with a pump which allows circulation and regulation of the correct pressure in the system. The water heats up the metal, which by the principle of heat conduction, then diffuses this famous heat which is so beneficial.

You have already thought and even applied many tricks; you let the sun into your home, ensured the insulation of windows and doors, briefed the whole family on important points: everyone is motivated. On the equipment side, the boiler has been checked, it is not modern, but it still holds; you purged the radiators before the start of winter so that the water circulates perfectly, without hope? In this case, an outside look is essential and allows you to find other solutions that you would not have thought of on your own.

There remains the means of regulating the heat. The house must be heated reasonably. This is where thermostats come in; it is a case that you will have had the care to place in the right place and which consists in regulating the temperature of the entire housing. Perhaps it would be smarter to switch to the programmable room thermostat. For barely a hundred euros (or even less) by installing it yourself, you will be able to regulate the temperature of your home according to your needs.. It all depends if it’s the first days of the week or the weekend. For ideal comfort, 19 to 20°C is the suitable temperature for heating a room usually, while sleeping or being away for a short time, a temperature of 16 to 17°C is more than enough, advises ADEME. . Verdict: you can earn a lot by investing in this device.

The room thermostat will work all the better if the radiator is equipped with a thermostatic valve. This switch controls how much water circulates through the system and reacts to ambient temperature, so the boiler will have less effort to provide, and the total bill will decrease accordingly. As a result, you will manage to save energy very gently, these can vary between 10 to 25%.

An economical trick with the radiator to heat less expensively

You can think of amplifying the diffusion of heat by placing an aluminum film behind your radiator. Ideal solution, because for a few cents and about ten minutes per radiator, very quickly you will be able to heat less expensively. You will also facilitate the action of your radiator, by closing the curtains obscuring certain rooms, even the shutters, especially on days of bad weather.
