Why I Started the Activism My Way Blog

Posted on the 02 July 2024 by Rondabowen @activismmyway

I started working on Activism My Way in 2012. At the time, I had a blog called “Not Quite Ally McBeal,” where I’d post my thoughts about current events and my life. I also thought I would be going to law school. Soon, I realized that I wasn’t sure heading to law school would be for me, and my life changed. So, I changed the name of that blog to Wining Wife®. However, I didn’t feel right writing about causes I cared about there, so I created a blog dedicated to causes, volunteering, and organizations.

The idea was to create a place on the Internet dedicated to community involvement. It was really important to me to get connected with organizations, learn about the organizations working to help make the world better, and even meet individuals doing that work. I couldn’t find blogs with the information I sought, so I figured I’d create such a blog myself.

Even today, I can find many blogs on volunteer travel or how to train or manage volunteers. But blogs that are dedicated to folks who want to get involved with their communities but don’t know how – if they exist out there en masse, then I’m not searching with the right terms. Some wonderful websites like Catchafire and VolunteerMatch exist, as well as local sites that put organizations in touch with the volunteers they’re looking for. These sites are quite useful and I hope you’ll check them out, but their scope and aim differ from what I’m trying to do here.

My Vision for This Blog

Activism My Way/Community Involvement is a blog covering topics of interest to individuals wanting to become more involved in their communities, organizations, and actions they feel passionate about. The blog’s focus will be on social activism and volunteer work. The ultimate objective of this blog is to inspire social responsibility and involvement. I hope that my writing on this blog will inspire those searching for ways to find more meaning in life to take action.

What’s Next

What’s next for the blog is to start doing what I want it to do. I’m happy to have you here reading these introductory posts, but I’m also really excited to start getting back to the content I want to share with my readers.
