Why does blue smoke come out the exhaust? What is the cause of blue smoke? Blue smoke from exhaust means that the engine is burning oil. Now, why is the engine is burning oil? That is the problem that we need to know.
Usually, when an engine burns oil it means that the engine has a bad ring, but aside from blue smoke if the engine has a bad ring there is also a power loss and this can be noticed especially when the car is being driven uphill.Possible cause of blue smoke:
(1) Bad ring
(2) Valve stem seal is bad
(3) The turbocharger is sealed are leaking
How to determine what cause blue smoke to come out of the exhaust
(1) If the car losses power while going uphill then the bad ring is the one that causes blue smoke.
(2) If the blue smoke is only noticeable when the car accelerates then the cause of blue smoke is a bad valve stem seals.
(3) If the car has turbocharger then the cause of the blue smoke is the leaking turbocharger seals.
What to do?(1) Bad rings
Bring the car to the repair shop, asks the mechanic to check the ring by subjecting the engine to “wet compression test” to confirm the ring is bad. It will cost a lot if the engine has a bad ring.
(2) Bad valve stem seals
Same when having bad rings, replacement of bad valve stem seals also cost a lot. Bring the car to the repair shop and have it replaced if the problem still occurs a complete valve job is necessary.
(3) Leaking turbocharger seals
Bring the car to the repair shop and asks the mechanic to check the turbocharger seals for any leak. If the problem is confirmed to have a leaking seal, repair to fix the problem.
