A couple thoughts here:
- This is a Super Bowl ad, and I might be the last person who’s seen it
- But I might not be
- And I’m still fired up about it
- I’m clearly not the target audience (This just in: Kathleen O’Malley of Frugal Portland now drives a Cadillac?)
- But still. This is not why we work so hard.
Why We Work So Hard, According to Cadillac:
We work hard, we take as little vacation as possible, so we can drive fancy cars and buy houses that are too big for one family? That doesn’t sound like the key to a happy life. Cadillac hit all the wrong notes here. If this is your dream, stop chasing it. Bigger, more expensive things will not make you happier. Pinky swear. Rich people have big things to worry about, and if you think a life full of fancy will solve all your problems, you, my friend, are mistaken.
Why We Work So Hard, According to Nate St. Pierre:
I have a friend who works for a non-profit called GiveForward.
Do you know Nate? You should. He’ll inspire you to be a better person, because he is an awesome person. He pours his heart, body, mind, and soul into his work, and because of him (I’m sure of it, he wouldn’t say he’s the reason, but I know better) GiveForward has surpassed the $100M mark.
That’s million.
The idea behind GiveForward, from what I can tell from their website (I haven’t contributed anything yet, but I will!) is that it’s like a combination of Kickstarter and Make a Wish Foundation. You can help a stranger with their medical expenses. Or help a dying person fulfill a wish.
Like this (please note: this is NSFW in that you will be a ball of tears sitting there at your desk, but if you can handle it, there’s no swearing or anything):
A Love Uniquely Yours // Nolan + Morgan from Forward // Motion Production on Vimeo.
Nolan died shortly after this. But Nate? Nate, and GiveForward made this happen.
So today, when I feel like I can’t write another thing about money, I’m overwhelmed with these two views on what money is good for.
It’s amazing. We always have a choice. Always. We can be a slave to our money, or we can use our money to do good.
I’m choosing the latter today.
What will you choose?
