Why Do Flies Fly?

Why oh why do they fly? Maybe because they adapted and could move to the smell faster. “Sense of smell was an adaptation that appeared when insects developed ability to fly”

An insect’ssense of smellis vital to its survival.

So I guess the question would be, what came first the ability to fly or the ability to smell? More work to be done, now if they could only get rid of the flies.
