Why Craig Mack Left Music To Focus On His Faith
In an upcoming documentary produced by his friend and former manager Alvin Toney, Craig Mack reveals why he turned away from the music industry and joined the Overcomer Ministry in Walterboro, South Carolina.

In the documentary filmed a month before his passing, that was shared exclusively with the NY Daily News, Craig Mack shared that he was sitting in the car contemplating killing someone, when he started talking to God, and then he heard Pastor Stair from the Overcomer’s Ministry on the radio, and that moment changed his life.

“I had a gun in my lap and I’m sitting there talking to God, saying like, ‘I don’t want to do this, but if it comes to getting ugly with somebody going to try to kill me, I’m going to have to do something first to prevent that,’” Mack said in footage shared with the Daily News.

He flipped through AM stations looking for the hip hop channel he loved while contemplating whether or not to use the weapon. Instead, he found Ralph Gordon Stair — a self-proclaimed prophet — preaching on the radio.

“I knew that it was God talking to me because of the way it made me feel emotionally,” Mack said. “I broke down crying all over the place in the car: ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry I was thinking about trying to do this to somebody.’”

Mack, reportedly then called Pastor Stair, who has been accused by a ton of women of sexual assault.  He then left NY and the music industry behind to join Stair’s Overcomer Ministry in Walterboro, S.C., and told only a handful of friends and family of his decision.

The rest of us found out when the following  disturbing video surfaced on YouTube of Mack at the controversial preacher’s church.

According to the NY Daily News last year Craig Mack asked his friend Alvin Toney to come to South Carolina to record the documentary.  Mack by this time was extremely ill, and knew that he was dying.  The former rapper could hardly breathe, and was relying on a cane to walk.

Mack’s footage will be a part of an upcoming documentary, featuring Long Island rappers Biz Markie and both members of the EPMD hip-hop group, Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith.

The rapper lived in a very modest home, amongst other followers of Stair’s Overcomer Ministry.  According to Colleton County records, Mack bought a home from the Faith Cathedral Fellowship — the nonprofit branch of Stair’s church — for $5 in November 2017. He lived there until his death, and is now buried on the churches  property according to Erick Purvis, Prime Time music’s manager.

Craig Mack died at the age of 47 from heart failure.

“He was prepared for whatever comes, to go home to the Lord.” “He wasn’t scared. He was ready.”-alvin toney
