We all know that the bathroom is one of the most important rooms in your home.

Not just for the obvious reasons of cleaning ourselves, but have you thought about how your bathroom functions?

We’re going to have a chat about why bathroom accessories are an important part of your every day life.  We’ll also give you some helpful tips on how to make the most of your bathroom accessories.

And of course, we’ll show you some of the hottest new trends and styles on the planet!

TAKE A GOOD LOOK

Have you ever stopped and taken a good look around your bathroom?

You’d probably be surprised if you started thinking about everything that needs to go into making it such a highly-functioning space.

Not just the shower, taps, and vanity, but the other little pieces that we may take for granted.  But bathroom accessories can make or break the look and functionality of any bathroom.

There are some things that you need to think seriously about, but the rest of the decision making process is the fun part.

Often referred to as the ‘jewellery of the bathroom’, we’ll showcase some of the hottest new designs and trends in the world of bathroom accessories!

OFF THE RAILS

One of the first pieces we commonly choose is the Towel Rail.

Makes sense, as it’s a huge part of the bathroom style and functionality.

It may seem like a simple decision, but there are a few things to consider when choosing your towel rail.

Firstly, do you live in a cooler climate and need a heated towel rail?  Is it for a main bathroom that services more than one person?  How many rungs do you need on your towel rail?  How wide do you want the rail to be?  What material do you want it constructed from?

Ask yourself these important questions, and you can narrow down your search.  Once you have the functional details, you can begin to explore the style options.

There are so many options for style, you may have to restrain yourself!  Timber, stainless steel, brushed brass, matte black, modern, boho, traditional, rustic…the list goes on – just try and echo the rest of the style of your home or bathroom to get a cohesive look.

OFF THE HOOK

Often one of the most underrated accessories of the bathroom – the robe hook!

This small yet functional piece can make a world of difference in your bathroom.

Not just for bathrobes, think outside the box.  Robe hooks can be used to hang bath towels, hand towels or even decorative styling pieces, like a plant.

And now that there are some gorgeous, on-trend robe hooks on the market, you can make them a prominent part of your design.  Don’t hide them on the back of the bathroom door…No, No, No…place them in a convenient area near the shower stall and keep your bath towels there.

Or install one right next to the vanity to hang your cute hand towels!  This can also help to break up the tiles, walls or blocks of color throughout the bathroom, creating a pocket of interest, and a distraction for the eye.

There are so many practical ways to use your robe hooks, give it a try and you’ll be so surprised at their versatility!

TOP SHELF

If you haven’t gone with the popular trend of adding a niche to your shower stall, you’re going to need somewhere to store your soap, shampoo & conditioner etc.

Enter the shower shelf!  This innovative product will help you get your shower organised.  Longer than your standard soap holder, it will give you more space to stow your shower essentials.  Some shower shelves even come with built in hooks to hang things like face washers and loofah’s.

Try and consider where you would like to install the shelf within the shower stall.  You need it to be at a height and a place where you won’t be knocking your elbow or head on it every time you wash your hair!

You may also need to order this upfront or early on in the planning stage, as it may need to be built into your shower recess by your tiler.

If it’s not a built in shower shelf, you may still like your tiler to install the shower shelf as it will need to be drilled into the tiles.

Design Tip – The shower shelf or soap holder also doesn’t need to match the color of your shower stall tiles.  Opting for a contrasting color or incorporating another material will give you that designer look!

THAT’S HANDY!

Next stop – hand towel rail.  Another essential on the list of bathroom accessories!

Similar to your decision making process with the towel rail, but smaller.

That’s not to say that your towel rail and hand towel rail need to match.  In fact, miss-matched accessories are on trend!  Try not to fall into the trap of everything needing to match to create cohesion.

You also need to carefully consider where the hand towel rail will be placed.  Ideally, it should be placed as close to the basin sink as possible, to ensure minimal drips.

Design Tip – The hand towel rail doesn’t always need to go on a wall either.  For something different, try mounting it on the side of your vanity!  Not just functional, but an interesting design detail…

THE END GAME

If you are looking at updating or modifying your bathroom to make it more functional, start by looking at your accessories.

Not only are they usually DIY projects, they can be a really cost effective way of bringing your bathroom up to date.

These pieces can literally be changed every few years and, are a great way to achieve a whole new look for your bathroom.

Simply by choosing a couple of high functioning bathroom accessories, you can revolutionise your daily routine!
