One of the main reasons for slow phone charging is using a faulty cable. Constantly winding and twisting the charger can tear or scratch, which may hamper the charging process. Similarly, when you use your computer’s USB port or a wireless charger to power your smartphone, charging may be slow. In this case, it is advisable to favor a wall socket and a wired charger and to buy, if necessary, a new (genuine) charger for your phone. The latter must nevertheless be stored in the right way in order to preserve its performance.

  • A problem with the phone’s USB port

The second reason for slow charging would be related to your phone’s USB port. The latter can indeed be damaged because of the debris and dust that accumulate there over time. Before considering repairing this component or considering replacing your device, check the condition of the connector with a flashlight. Using a toothpick or softer object, gently remove any dirt stuck in the port. Avoid using metal objects such as needles and pins; these are very likely to damage your device. Note that it is best to turn off the phone before starting this action.

Many people don’t know how to properly close apps on their phone. When running in the background, these not only consume phone memory but also drain the battery. In effect, when the device is connected to the charger, the battery continues to be used, which slows down the charging process and therefore reduces its lifespan. In order to fix this, just manually stop the apps running in the background. To do this, you can directly open the recent applications menu at the bottom of your home screen or go through the “Settings” option. In “Applications”, select the one you want to deactivate then click on “Force stop”. On iPhone, go to “Settings”, “General”, “Background Refresh”. Now all you have to do is disable the apps you want.

The other reason for your phone charging slowly has to do with how you use it on a daily basis. First, you should never use your smartphone while it’s charging. The latter indeed needs to be at rest to replenish energy. In other words, when a phone is under constant load while plugged into an electrical outlet, it may take longer to charge. So, rather than using it when connected to a power source, it would be better to adopt some simple gestures that could speed up the charging time. One of them is to activate the “airplane mode”. To do this, open the drop-down menu by swiping the screen down. Then tap the airplane icon.

As you will have understood, the problem of a slow charge can appear for various reasons. It is then necessary to know how to react on a case-by-case basis, by referring in particular to the few methods mentioned above.
