Who has the cheapest electric rates and bills in Dallas? With electricity rates on the rise and winter still stirring up chills around Texas, finding a cheap fixed-rate electric plan can be a struggle. But that’s where we come in. Let’s break down the four cheapest options in Dallas right now to help you find the best deal.

Cheap Early Termination Fee Electric in Dallas

Secure 12 from Veteran Energy has a low energy charge of 7.75 cents per kWh. There’s a base charge of $9.55 per billing cycle if you use less than 1000 kWh. Once you add the TDU charges, the average estimated electric rate is 12.2 cents per kWh for 1000 kWh of use. At that rate, the average estimated bill is around $128.

The plan is only 6% renewable but can be upgraded to 100% Texas Wind when you pay an additional $19.95 per month. And there’s an early termination fee of $20 per month remaining in the contract.

Cheapest “Free” Fixed-Rate Electric in Dallas

Free Weekend-12 from Champion Energy Service is a “free” electricity plan in Dallas. You’ll pay 11.4 cents per kWh along with the TDU charges during the paid period. During the free period, you won’t be charged for usage. And your free period is from 12 midnight on Friday until 11:59 Sunday night.

With an estimated 30% of your use occurring during the free period, the average rate for 1000 kWh of use comes to 12.5 cents per kWh. That means an estimated monthly bill of around $123.

One cool perk about this plan is the Free Weekends Cash Back program. If you’re enrolled in this plan, you’ll get 5% of your electricity use during the paid period applied as a credit to your next month’s bill.

The Cheapest Fixed Rate Electric in Dallas

The Gruene 18 from Energy Texas offers a very low electric rate of 6.55 cents per kWh. There’s a monthly base charge of $4.95. And once you add in the TDU charges, the average rate for 1000 kWh of use is 11.5 cents per kWh. That’ll give you a very low average estimated bill of around $115 per month.

Come & Take It 12 from Energy Texas also has a low electric rate of 6.61 cents per kWh. It has the same base charge of $4.95. And with the TDU charges, the average rate for electricity at 1000 kWh of use is 11.6 cents per kWh. That’ll give you a slightly higher average estimated bill of $116 per month.

While both plans are 100% renewable, they do have a steep early termination fee of $150 if you wish to switch to a new provider before your contract ends. So, leaving the contract early could be expensive. That’s why it’s always important to compare electric rates and figure out your potential savings before making the switch to a new provider.

Which Electric Plan Offers the Cheapest Rates?

Ultimately, the cheapest plan for you depends on your use. If you’re at home a lot on the weekend and have high energy use, then the free weekend plan from Champion may be a good option. Don’t want to pay for renewable electricity but still want cheap rates? Either plan from Energy Texas will work. However, if you want to avoid expensive early termination fees, then the plan from Veteran Energy can get you there.

What Happens at The End of Your Electric Contract?

Before the contract ends, you’ll receive a renewal notice from your provider telling you what your options are after the contract ends. If you don’t renew your contract or switch to a new plan, you’ll be moved to the default renewal product. This is usually a month-to-month plan which can be quite expensive. For that reason, don’t forget to shop for a cheap electric provider in the Oncor service area before your contract ends.
