Whisky Review – The Benriach 10

It's been a while since we've had anything from Speyside's Benriach Distillery. And when we say a while, we mean almost exactly 7 years. And when we say almost exactly, we mean that this review is going live just a couple days shy of 7 years, which is the last time that we wrote about anything Benriach Distillery related. To be precise, we are referring to our review of a Benriach independent bottling that found it's way into our beloved Glencairn glass courtesy of our friends at Single Cask Nation.

On today's episode of A Tasting at The Murder Table, we review a much more accessible Benriach. And by accessible, we don't mean in terms of how it smells or tastes. What we actually mean is that this is their standard-issue Single Malt, i.e. the one that you'll find on a liquor store or back bar shelf near you.

Here's what Benriach has to say about their 10 year old expression:

Bottled at 43% vol, the BenRiach 10 Years Old is Classic Speyside in character. The cask formula focuses on ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks - exactly the types of wood we favour at BenRiach. This fresh, lively, fruit-laden single malt captures WARM OAK SPICES, GREEN APPLE, DRIED APRICOTS, PEACH and BANANA with subtle touches of ANISEED, LEMON ZEST and BARLEY.
