On today's episode of A Tasting at The Murder Table, we were given the opportunity to try a very special and truly limited release from Islay's Kilchoman Distillery. It goes by the rather long name of Kilchoman 100% Islay ImpEx Cask Evolution 02/2019 (Cask #622/2011).
We scoured the interwebz for information about this whisky, and all we could find were the following blurbs on the Whisky Advocate website:
Exclusive to Kilchoman's U.S. importer, ImpEx Beverages, this single-cask 100% Islay single malt was distilled on Oct. 13, 2011, matured in a sherry hogshead, and bottled on May 20, 2019.While all Kilchoman whiskies are distilled and matured on Islay, the 100% Islay series goes a step further and uses only barley that was grown on the distillery's farm and malted on-site using its old-fashioned malting floor. This single-cask expression is the first fully sherry-matured 100% Islay available in the U.S. and was selected by ImpEx's team during a company trip to Islay.Regular readers/viewers are well aware that we're big fans of Kilchoman, so saying that we went into this tasting with rose-colored glasses was a bit of an understatement.
Did this whisky live up to our expectations?
Was Limpd dragged further down the Islay Whisky rabbit hole?
