If you’re thinking of visiting Capri, you’re probably wondering when a good time to go is. The tourist season officially kicks off at Easter and runs right through the spring and summer up until September. Prices in May and June tend to be more reasonable than July and August, and most people consider May to be the best time to go for value of money, the weather, and the least number of crowds.
During this time, the spring flowers are in bloom and Capri looks beautiful bathed in the fresh spring sun. The weather in May is warm enough to sit out in but not too hot that it’s uncomfortable, making it the perfect time to explore and take walks around the island. The later on in the year you get, and the closer you get to July, the more tourists there are, though the weather can be more predictable in the height of summer.
Spring in Capri
Spring on the Amalfi Coast is dubbed the golden season, since it’s when the charming villages start coming to life. The cafes, restaurants, and shops start opening their doors for business and you can breathe in the heady scents of the orange blossoms that are just coming into bloom down the twisting, cobbled lanes.
Summer in Capri
July and August might be busier than spring in Capri, but they are also the time of the local festivals and nightlife. The atmosphere on the island is buzzing during the warmer months, and there are plenty of things going on to keep you busy. This is also when many of the glitzy celebs throw down their anchors in the harbours and party the night away on their private yachts.
Even though it’s busy at this time, you can still find places that are untouched. Hire a boat to explore hidden coves and take a car to the more secluded beaches that stud the coast.
Autumn in Capri
Despite marking the end of summer, September is a great time to visit Capri because the temperatures are still very pleasant and the majority of tourists have left. Although you don’t have the freshly blooming flowers in autumn, the rest of the island is much like it is in spring during these months.
Winter in Capri
Capri completely changes in winter. The millpond-like waters of the sea turn into dramatic waves that, on some occasions, can splash the houses that perch on the nearby cliffs. Though you can still visit Capri during winter, the vast majority of shops and restaurants will have shut their doors and the weather is likely to be unpredictable and wet. That being said, if you’re open to the elements, it can be a great time to explore Capri in its rawest, most dramatic form.
