Wheel offset refers to the distance between the hub mounting surface and the centerline of the wheel. To measure wheel offset, you will need a few tools, including a straight-edge ruler, a tape measure, and a caliper.
Here are the steps to measure wheel offset:
1. Clean the wheel: Use a cloth or brush to clean any dirt or debris from the mounting surface of the wheel.
2. Measure wheel width: Use a tape measure to determine the width of the wheel from one lip to the other. Make sure to measure at the widest point of the wheel.
3. Locate the mounting surface: Find the hub mounting surface of the wheel. This is the flat part of the wheel where it will attach to the vehicle hub.
4. Measure mounting surface to rim edge: Place the straight edge ruler across the rim edge of the wheel and measure the distance between the rim edge and the hub mounting surface. This will give you the distance from the rim edge to the hub mounting surface.
5. Measure mounting surface to centerline: Using the caliper, measure the distance from the hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel.
6. Calculate wheel offset: Subtract the distance from the hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel from the distance from the hub mounting surface to the rim edge. This will give you the wheel offset.
Remember that wheel offset is an important factor to consider when purchasing aftermarket wheels, as it can affect the handling and performance of your vehicle. If you're not confident in measuring wheel offset yourself, it's best to consult a professional.
