Sydney Harbour
One of the most famous sites in the world, you’d be forgiven for thinking Sydney Harbour is just another overrated tourist site – but you’d be wrong. Apart from enjoying the beauty of the Sydney Opera House, the harbor is surrounded by beautiful hills and offers calm waters to take a cruise on. You can even climb up inside the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and get a view of the whole scene that you won’t forget soon.

It goes without saying that any trip to Australia must include some live sport. They’re perhaps the most sports-mad nation in the world, and there’s no experience quite like watching the Australian Open in Melbourne. Taking place throughout January, this year’s event might be your last chance to catch three of the all-time greats in action. Roger Federer is looking unstoppable at the moment, and the latest tennis betting has him as a 15/8 favourite to take the title – but Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal will have something to say about that.
Bondi Beach
Fancy some sun? The best way to enjoy the laid-back Australian way of life is to get in on it yourself – and Bondi Beach is undoubtedly the spot for that. Feel the sand between your toes and the sun on your neck – you can even enjoy a barbecue on the famous site. Make sure you stay around for sunset, too, and have your camera at the ready. There’s no shortage of bars and restaurants along the beach either, so there’s certainly worse places to spend a day.
The Great Ocean Road
One of the most incredible drives the world has to offer, the Great Ocean Road certainly lives up to its name. Head west from Melbourne and you’ll be greeted with miles of gorgeous ocean and plenty of amazing photo opportunities. After all, who doesn’t love the feeling of a cool ocean breeze on a hot day? The pinnacle of the journey is the Twelve Apostles, a stunning landmark you need to see to believe. And yes, there are plenty of sunbathing spots along the way.
White Night
A city-wide party like no other, White Night takes over Melbourne for one night every February, and it’s a lesser-known activity that any tourist should enjoy. Buildings and streets are lit up with all kinds of colourful art imaginable, projections fill every street, and musicians and artists show off their talent into the early hours. It’s the most popular night in Melbourne all year, and locals will tell you that it’s well worth the visit – you won’t believe some of the stunning sights lit up onto Melbourne’s historic buildings and neck-craning skyscrapers.
