What Women Can Do to Stop Assault?

stop rape
We have seen many gruesome incidents in the past year which has truly left me aghast. I wonder and question myself everyday that 'What has happened to this country?' Where are the values, the culture all the people possessed? Then I think maybe the culture of the west has washed away everybody's brains drenching severely all the ethics in alcoholism.
Today, the youngsters, even the school kids are longing to get popularity whether it is by hook or by crook. The most drastic thing is that they are willing to go to any depth beneath their morals to achieve that. In today's fast paced world, no one waits for any one. Teenage kids killing their grandparents for petty amount, boyfriends killing their girlfriends just because they ditched them. Is that a reason strong enough to take life of someone? No!
The problem lies with the upbringing and the surroundings in which the person has been brought up. This cannot be a single reason behind all this as there are several others in a queue which contribute by a significant amount to the growing cases of rapes and other crimes.
After the shocking incident of Delhi gang rape, nearly 43 cases of rapes have been registered with police stations across the country. I don't blame women for provoking men towards committing such heinous crimes but somewhere if they can cautiously take certain measures, they can very well be preventing themselves against the assault.
#1. Check on time.
It's very tough to keep this thing on regular basis as the work demands, the pressures of the big fat corporate world won't allow you to keep a check on it. But try to reach home by early evening if possible. I don't say not to roam at malls or other places at night! I will discuss this point further down in this post.
#2. Keep your eyes open.
The tendency is to watch any incident, close eyes and silently turn away. Remember, if it's today someone else, tomorrow it can be you also. I recall a short story I was told in my childhood days that with unity, no one can break you. You all have to work together with no envy, no jealousy towards anybody.  Next, keep an eye on anyone who you feel uncomfortable with or you suspect of something wrong can happen, don't wait for the incident to happen, act immediately!
#3. Defend Yourself.
The best someone who can defend you is you yourself. The accused will not first welcome you and then attack you but will straight away attack you when you least expect it. Keep a pepper spray at closest proximity where you can reach easily. Keep a Swiss knife also which can be of great help at the time of need. Last but not the least, if you can, learn self defense techniques.
#4. Never go alone.
Nowadays women always feel like free birds independently roaming here and there alone or at the max with 2 or 3 friends but remember, if you're going somewhere alone keep a check of where are you going. if its a place which will be well crowded, then no issues. But if you are going to meet someone in person and that can be either girl or boy make sure not to go alone as the circumstances can flip your life by 360 degrees!
#5. Other measures.
Well, the above things can be helpful in prevention of the sexual assault, but there are several others like dress elegantly not revealing your body (this usually applies more to where you are going. If its a party or a special occasion, you are most welcome. But if it is a secluded area, then be cautious.). Keep the number 100 (police control room) in your speed dial list etc.
Last but not the least, as I said you are the only one who can defend yourselves, try not to involve yourself in useless fights which may provoke someone against you. With unity, we all cam fight this crime uprooting it completely.
