What Will Be on the Women’s Prize for Fiction Longlist?

By Curlygeek04 @curlygeek04

The longlist for the Women’s Prize for Fiction (formerly Baileys Prize) will be announced March 8.  I always find a lot of great reads from this list, like last year’s winner, The Power. The Prize considers novels written by women in English, published in the UK between April 1 2017 and March 31 2018.

Here are books I read in the last year that could be on the list, roughly in order of preference.  Major caveat: I’m not sure when these books were published in the UK, so some might not be eligible.

  • Home Fire
  • Behold the Dreamers
  • Little Fires Everywhere
  • Anything is Possible
  • The Hate U Give
  • The Leavers
  • Homegoing
  • The Long Drop
  • Birdcage Walk
  • Goodbye Vitamin
  • Sing, Unburied, Sing
  • Manhattan Beach

Obviously there are plenty of award-worthy books I haven’t read, these are just the ones I like.  I think Little Fires and Home Fire are very likely, and Birdcage Walk because it’s Helen Dunmore’s last book.  I’m also assuming some British bias, which is fair since it’s their prize.

Which of these books did you like or dislike? What do you think will be on the list?
