This is a very simple but very important step that we quite often forget. This gesture only takes a few minutes: it is a question of carefully checking the pockets of your clothes to see if there are objects hiding there. Indeed, handkerchiefs, pens, coins etc. can damage your washing machine and all the laundry in it.

Checking pants, sweaters, sweatshirts, but also jackets, is essential to eliminate any object that could have been carelessly forgotten inside. The handkerchiefs left in the pockets are very annoying, they stick on all the clothes at the end of the washing cycle. But, there is even more annoying, the neglected pens in the pockets, because the ink can damage all the linen.

Therefore, in order to avoid unpleasant surprises when opening the door of the washing machine, at the end of the washing cycle, remember to check the pockets of your laundry before putting it in the drum of your appliance.

Other details and tips not to be overlooked for optimal washing of your laundry

Choose the right amount of fabric softener

The use of fabric softener is essential. After washing, clothes will smell good and feel softer. Also, some clothes will dry faster and be easier to iron. However, care should be taken with the amount of fabric softener used. Adding more product is counterproductive.

First, read the label on the fabric softener container to be sure of the optimal amount to use. Most fabric softeners are in liquid form and have a cap with which you can measure the volume of the product. Then, depending on the washing machine model, pour the fabric softener into the dedicated compartment. It will be used during the rinse cycle of the machine. You can do the same if you use a natural fabric softener. Do not let the product come into direct contact with clothing, as it may stain.

Use the right washing program

Choose the washing program of the washing machine

The quick wash program is only suitable for a small amount of laundry or if the clothes are lightly soiled. The duration of such a program does not allow thorough cleaning, and some powder-type detergents do not dissolve well. Delicate garments should always be hand washed, do not put them directly in the washing machine as this will damage the garment.

Finally, use the prewash function for heavily soiled laundry. Most machines benefit from this setting. Choose a washing machine program that indicates this, but remember that you will need to use more detergent in this case.

Do not wash your sneakers in the washing machine

Many shoes clearly state on the label that they can be machine washed. Nevertheless, it is advisable to wash your shoes by hand. If you really need to wash your shoes in the washing machine, at least consider removing the insoles before putting them in the drum and putting them in a bag to protect them. Also put some towels inside the washing machine to prevent excessive shocks from damaging your washing machine during the spin cycle.
