Happy July, everyone! It looks like July is going to be a somewhat quiet month on TCM, but that’s okay with me since I know Summer Under the Stars is already right around the corner. This month, we have Paul Henreid as the TCM Star of the Month and you’ll be able to catch his movies every Tuesday night in July.
I’m pretty excited for July’s round of Friday Night Spotlight, which will be focused on the films of French director Francois Truffaut. If you’ve never seen a Truffaut film or haven’t seen very many of them, this is a perfect opportunity to see more of his work.
This month will also feature Carson on TCM, a series of classic Tonight Show interviews by Johnny Carson, which I’m sure is going to be very fun.
July 1: The Carson on TCM series kicks off tonight at 8:00 PM and will feature classic Tonight Show interviews with Drew Barrymore, Kirk Douglas, Mary Tyler Moore, Neil Simon, and George Burns.
July 2: Paul Henreid gets his first night of Star of the Month with In Our Time at 8:00 PM, Devotion at 10:00 PM, Song of Love at 12:00 AM, Deep in my Heart at 2:15 AM, and Meet Me in Las Vegas at 4:30 AM.
July 4: Happy Independence Day! No Independence day would be complete without Yankee Doodle Dandy at 5:30 PM and 1776 at 1:30 AM.
July 5: Friday Night Spotlight returns with a night of Francois Truffaut movies with The 400 Blows at 8:00 PM, Stolen Kisses at 10:30 PM, Bed and Board at 12:15 AM, Love on the Run at 2:00 AM, and The Green Room at 4:00 AM.
July 6: Three movies based on the works of Maxwell Anderson tonight with Key Largo at 8:00 PM, What Price Glory at 10:00 PM, and The Bad Seed at 12:00 AM.
July 7: During the day, there’s An American in Paris at 2:00 PM, Rebel Without a Cause at 4:00 PM, and Picnic at 6:00 PM. Tonight’s Silent Sunday feature is Douglas Fairbanks in The Thief of Bagdad at 12:00 AM.
July 8: TCM hits the beach today with Bikini Beach at 4:00 PM and Beach Blanket Bingo at 6:00 PM. Then Johnny Carson returns at 8:00 PM with interviews with Doris Day, Charlton Heston, Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, and Tony Curtis. Then you can stay tuned for some Billy Wilder movies with Some Like it Hot at 9:00 PM, The Fortune Cookie at 11:15 PM, Spirit of St. Louis at 1:30 AM, and The Seven Year Itch at 4:00 AM.
July 9: It’s a day of Glenn Ford movies starting with Gilda at 6:00 AM, Terror on a Train at 8:00 AM, The Big Heat at 9:15 AM, The Fastest Gun Alive at 11:00 AM, Ransom! at 12:45 PM, The Teahouse of the August Moon at 2:30 PM, Imitation General at 4:30 PM, and The Gazebo at 6:15 PM. Then Paul Henreid takes over with Now Voyager at 8:00 PM, Deception at 10:00 PM, Dead Ringer at 12:00 AM, The Madwoman of Chaillot at 2:00 AM, and The Spanish Main at 4:15 AM.
July 10: Happy birthday to John Gilbert! July 12: Francois Truffaut is back in the Friday Night Spotlight with The Bride Wore Black at 8:00 PM, Confidentially Yours at 10:00 PM, Mississippi Mermaid at 12:00 AM, Such a Gorgeous Kid Like Me at 2:15 AM, and Shoot the Piano Player at 4:00 AM.
July 13: It’s a Rosalind Russell triple feature with The Women at 8:00 PM, Hired Wife at 10:30 PM, and The Feminine Touch at 12:15 AM.
July 14: Tonight is all about movies with the word “seven” in the title. The Magnificent Seven at 8:00 PM, Seven Angry Men at 10:15 PM, Seven Years Bad Luck at 12:00 AM, Seven Chances at 1:15 AM, and Seven Samurai at 2:15 AM.
July 15: Johnny Carson is back at 8:00 PM with interviews with Shelley Winters, Ronald Reagan, Robin Williams, Jonathan Winters, and Michael Caine.
July 16: Star of the Month Paul Henreid returns with Never So Few at 8:00 PM, Siren of Bagdad at 10:15 PM, Hollow Triumph at 11:30 PM, Joan of Paris at 1:00 AM, Thief of Damascus at 2:45 AM, and So Young, So Bad at 4:15 AM.
July 17: Tony Randall is the man of the night with 7 Faces of Dr. Lao at 8:00 PM, Our Man in Marrakesh at 10:00 PM, The Mating Game at 11:45 PM, Boys’ Night Out at 1:30 AM, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn at 3:30 AM.
July 18: Who doesn’t enjoy an afternoon of Preston Sturges movies?
