What’s on TCM: January 2017

Happy new year, everyone! I hope you all had a had a safe and happy holiday season. As always, TCM’s January schedule is chock full of things to set your DVRs for. Jane Wyman is the Star of the Month and her work will be featured every Monday night. On Tuesday nights, TCM will be doing a spotlight on prison films. If you’ve recently seen La La Land, you’ll want to tune in on January 18th for a night of movies chosen by director Damien Chazelle, which includes many movies that heavily influenced La La Land. And I certainly can’t forget to mention that TCM will be celebrating the career of Debbie Reynolds on January 27th with a 24 hour marathon of her films.

Now, let’s get on to the rest of the schedule.

January 1: Start 2017 off on a suspenseful note with an entire day of Alfred Hitchcock movies. Rope at 6:00 AM, Strangers on a Train at 7:30 AM, Torn Curtain at 9:15 AM, Family Plot at 11:30 AM, Psycho at 1:30 PM, Marnie at 3:30 PM, The Birds at 5:45 PM, Vertigo at 8:00 PM, Rear Window at 10:15 PM, Shadow of a Doubt at 12:15 AM, The Man Who Knew Too Much at 2:15 AM, and The Trouble With Harry at 4:30 AM.

January 3: Happy birthday to Ray Milland! See him in A Life of Her Own at 8:30 AM, The Lost Weekend at 12:15 PM, The Major and the Minor at 2:00 PM, Irene at 3:45 PM, Dial M For Murder at 5:30 PM. Then it’s the first night of TCM’s spotlight on prison films with Cool Hand Luke at 8:00 PM, Brute Force at 10:15 PM, Riot in Cell Block 11 at 12:00 AM, The Big House at 1:30 AM, The Last Mile at 3:15 AM, and Each Dawn I Die at 4:30 AM.

January 5: Jane Wyman has her first turn as Star of the Month tonight with Public Wedding at 8:00 PM, Torchy Plays With Dynamite at 9:15 PM, Brother Rat at 10:30 PM, Brother Rat and a Baby at 12:15 AM, An Angel from Texas at 2:00 AM, Tugboat Annie Sails Again 3:15 AM, Gambling on the High Seas at 4:45 AM, and He Couldn’t Say No at 5:45 AM.

January 7: Hit the road tonight with  Hope and Crosby in Road to Singapore at 8:00 PM, Road to Zanzibar at 9:45 PM, and Road to Morocco at 11:30 PM.

January 8: To Be or Not to Be at 4:00 PM, Rollerball at 5:45 PM, Annie Hall at 8:00 PM, Hannah and her Sisters at 10:00 PM.

January 9: Tonight, there’s Female at 8:00 PM, The Thin Man at 9:15 PM, Some Like it Hot at 11:00 PM, Breakfast at Tiffany’s at 1:15 AM, and Stagecoach at 3:15 AM.

January 10: More prison films tonight with Papillon at 8:00 PM, Escape from Alcatraz at 10:45 PM, White Heat 1:00 AM, I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang at 3:00 AM and Convicts 4 at 4:45 AM.

January 12: The theme for the day is “spouses reunited,” so there’s I Love You Again at 6:00 AM, My Favorite Wife at 7:45 AM, Let Us Be Gay at 9:30 AM. Then Jane Wyman is back with Johnny Belinda at 8:00 PM, The Yearling at 10:00 PM, The Lost Weekend at 12:15 AM, The Story of Will Rogers at 2:15 AM, and Stage Fright at 4:15 AM.

January 13: More from Jane Wyman today with Crime By Night at 6:15 AM, My Favorite Spy at 7:30 AM, The Lady Takes a Sailor at 9:00 AM, Flight Angels at 10:45 AM, Bad Men of Missouri at 12:00 PM, and The Wyoming Kid at 1:15 PM. Then it’s a night of Cleopatra with Cleopatra (1934) at 8:00 PM, Cleopatra (1963) at 10:00 PM, Carry On Cleo at 2:30 AM, and Caesar and Cleopatra at 4:15 AM.

January 15: Lots of good stuff on today. A Free Soul at 12:00 PM, All About Eve at 3:30 PM, An American in Paris at 6:00 PM.

January 16: In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. day, TCM will be showing civil rights documentaries tonight, with You Got to Move at 8:00 PM, Freedom on my Mind at 10:00 PM, Crisis: Behind a Presidential Commitment at 12:00 AM.

January 17: More prison movies tonight with Jailhouse Rock at 8:00 PM, Weary River at 9:45 PM, Two-Way Stretch at 11:30 PM, Doin’ Time at 1:15 AM, Jail Busters at 2:45 AM, Pardon Us at 4:00 AM, and Hold ‘Em Jail at 5:00 AM.

January 18: Happy birthday to the one and only Cary Grant! Bringing Up Baby at 6:15 AM, Penny Serenade at 8:00 AM, None But the Lonely Heart at 10:15 AM, Destination Tokyo at 12:30 PM, Crisis at 2:45 PM, Mr. Lucky at 4:30 PM, Room for One More at 6:15 PM. Then it’s a night of movies chosen by guest programmer Damien Chazelle. It’s Always Fair Weather at 8:00 PM, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg at 10:00 PM, Meet me in St. Louis at 12:00 AM, and City Lights at 2:00 AM.

January 19: Another night of Jane Wyman with Here Comes the Groom at 8:00 PM, Magic Town at 10:00 PM, Larceny Inc. at 12:00 AM, Three Guys Named Mike at 1:45 AM, The Doughgirls at 3:30 AM, and Make Your Own Bed at 5:30 AM.

January 20: A few more from Jane Wyman today with Princess O’Rourke at 7:00 AM, One More Tomorrow at 8:45 AM, Honeymoon for Three at 10:30 AM, The King and the Chorus Girl at 12:00 PM. Then there’s a few from Patricia Neal with The Fountainhead at 1:45 PM, Breakfast at Tiffany’s at 3:45 PM, and A Face in the Crowd at 5:45 PM.

January 27: TCM will be honoring the late Debbie Reynolds with a a 24-hour tribute to her career.
