Happy February, everyone! I hope you have plenty of room on your DVRs because it’s almost time for this year’s round of 31 Days of Oscar.
This year, TCM has organized their schedule for 31 Days based on which categories the movies were nominated for. Saturdays and Sundays are both dedicated to Best Picture nominees/winners, Wednesdays to Supporting Actor/Actress nominees/winners, Thursdays to Best Actress nominees/winners, and Fridays to Best Actor nominees/winners. The categories for Mondays and Tuesdays are a mixed bag of categories including Foreign film, Best Song, and Best Costume Design.
I know a lot of people like trying to see every Best Picture nominee so if you’re one of those people, this month is going to be a goldmine for you. Where else can you turn on the TV one night and see every Best Picture nominee from the 1929/1930 Oscars?
Not only are there a lot of great movies this month, there’s also a new documentary to look forward to. On February 1st, TCM will be premiering their new documentary And the Oscar Goes To…, all about the history of the Academy Awards.

February 1: 31 Days of Oscar kicks off in a big way with a marathon of all ten Best Picture nominees from 1939. Goodbye, Mr. Chips at 6:00 AM; Of Mice and Men at 8:00 AM; Ninotchka at 10:00 AM; Wuthering Heights at 12:00 PM; Stagecoach at 2:00 PM; Mr. Smith Goes to Washington at 3:45 PM; The Wizard of Oz at 6:00 PM; Gone With the Wind at 10:00 PM; Dark Victory at 2:00 AM; and Love Affair at 4:00 AM. At 8:00 PM is the premiere of the new documentary And the Oscar Goes To… There isn’t an encore of that today, but it will be re-run throughout the month.
February 2: It’s a general Best Picture nominee marathon during the day with The Letter at 6:00 AM, Kings Row at 7:45 AM, and 12 Angry Men at 6:15 PM. For prime time, it switches to a 1945 Best Picture nominee marathon with The Lost Weekend at 8:00 PM, an encore of And the Oscar Goes To… at 10:00 PM, Bells of St. Mary’s at 12:00 AM, and Spellbound at 2:15 AM.
February 3: Into costume design? Today has a Best Costume Design winners and nominees marathon including How to Marry a Millionaire at 9:00 AM and It Should Happen to You at 1:00 PM. For prime time, it’s all about Best Costume Design nominees from 1954 with A Star is Born at 8:00 PM and There’s No Business Like Show Business at 12:30 AM.
February 4: Take a look at some Best Foreign Language Film nominees today with La Strada at 6:45 AM, The Burmese Harp at 8:45 AM, The Virgin Spring at 10:45 AM, Closely Watched Trains at 12:15 PM, The Battle of Algeirs at 1:45 PM, Z at 3:45 PM, and Babette’s Feast at 6:00 PM. Then it’s on to Best Director nominees from 1932/33 with Lady for a Day at 8:00 PM, Cavalcade at 10:00 PM, and Little Women at 12:00 AM.
February 5: Spend tonight with some of 1946′s Best Supporting Actor nominees with The Best Years of Our Lives at 8:00 PM, The Razor’s Edge at 11:00 PM, and Notorious at 1:30 AM.
February 6: Today is all about Best Actress nominees with Romance at 8:00 AM, The Constant Nymph at 9:30 AM, Caged at 11:30 AM, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane at 3:30 PM, Wait Until Dark at 6:00 PM, and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at 8:00 PM.
February 7: It’s all about 1953′s Best Actor nominees tonight with From Here to Eternity at 8:00 PM, Stalag 17 at 10:15 PM, and The Robe at 2:30 AM.
February 8: It’s another Best Picture nominee during the day with The Maltese Falcon at 10:30 AM, How the West Was Won at 12:15 PM, Mister Roberts at 3:15 PM, and Auntie Mame at 5:30 PM. The spotlight shifts to Best Picture nominees from 1949 with The Heiress at 8:00 PM, All the King’s Men at 10:00 PM, and A Letter to Three Wives at 2:30 AM.
February 9: Even more Best Picture nominees with The Magnificent Ambersons at 6:45 AM and The Good Earth at 8:30 AM. Starting at 8:00 PM and continuing into the next day is a marathon of 1936′s Best Picture nominees. First up is Dodsworth, followed by The Great Ziegfeld at 10:00 PM, Anthony Adverse at 1:15 AM, and Romeo and Juliet at 4:00 AM.
February 10: 1936′s Best Picture nominees continue with The Story of Louis Pasteur at 6:30 AM, A Tale of Two Cities at 8:00 AM, San Francisco at 10:30 AM, Three Smart Girls at 12:30 PM, Libeled Lady at 2:00 PM, and Mr. Deeds Goes to Town at 4:00 PM. Then it’s on to 1945′s nominees for Best Original Screenplay with The Great McGinty at 8:00 PM, Foreign Correspondent at 9:30 PM, The Great Dictator at 12:00 AM, Angels Over Broadway at 2:15 AM, and Dr. Ehrlich’s Magic Bullet at 4:45 AM.
February 11: Today’s daytime lineup is amazing! All nominees and winners for Best Original Screenplay, there’s Hail the Conquering Hero at 6:45 AM, The Lady Eve at 8:30 AM, Ball of Fire at 10:15 AM, Adam’s Rib at 12:15 PM, Designing Woman at 2:00 PM.
February 12: Best Supporting Actress nominees get the spotlight today with Singin’ in the Rain at 9:30 AM, Some Came Running at 11:15 AM, Imitation of Life at 1:45 PM, and The Manchurian Candidate at 4:00 PM.
February 13: It’s a night of 1942′s Best Actress nominees with My Sister Eileen at 8:00 PM, Mrs. Miniver at 10:00 PM, Now Voyager at 12:30 AM, Woman of the Year at 2:45 AM, and The Pride of the Yankees at 4:45 AM.
