Happy August, everybody!  Who’s ready for another round of Summer Under the Stars?  I know I am!  I can’t wait to get started with this year’s round of Blogging Under the Stars and see what new-to-me movies I’ve been missing out on.  I’m a big fan of a lot of the stars being featured this year so I know I’ll be having lots of fun this month.

My top ten days I’m most looking forward to: Humphrey Bogart, Doris Day, Ramon Novarro, Lana Turner, Catherine Deneuve, Bette Davis, Natalie Wood, Charles Coburn, Clark Gable, Glenda Farrell.

August 1:  Humphrey Bogart is always a crowd pleaser, so definitely a good way to kick off this year’s Summer Under the Stars. Of course you can count on lots of must-sees like High Sierra at 7:00 AM, The Maltese Falcon at 9:00 AM, To Have and Have Not at 10:45 AM, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre at 12:30 PM, In a Lonely Place at 6:00 PM, The Big Sleep at 8:00 PM, and Key Largo at 10:00 PM.

August 2:  If you like lighthearted entertainment, it’s hard to go wrong with a Doris Day day.  Romance on the High Seas at 6:00 AM, My Dream is Yours at 7:45 AM, It’s a Great Feeling at 9:30 AM, The Lullaby of Broadway at 11:00 AM, On Moonlight Bay at 12:45 PM, By the Light of the Silvery Moon at 2:30 PM, Lucky Me at 4:15 PM, It Happened to Jane at 6:00 PM, her 1976 interview with Johnny Carson at 7:45 PM, Calamity Jane at 8:00 PM, Please Don’t Eat the Daisies at 10:00 PM, The Glass bottom Boat at 12:00 AM, Tea for Two at 2:00 AM, and Love Me or Leave Me at 3:45 AM.

August 4: I haven’t seen many movies from Mary Boland day, but I am really looking forward to seeing Ruggles of Red Gap for the first time at 8:00 PM.  And The Women (11:30 PM) is always a good choice.

August 6:  Joan Fontaine day gives us a very nice streak of movies.  Gunga Din at 4:00 PM, Suspicion at 6:00 PM, Rebecca at 8:00 PM, and Letter From an Unknown Woman at 10:30 PM.

August 8:  This year’s (mostly) silent film star is Ramon Novarro.  Today we get The Prisoner of Zenda at 6:00 AM, Scaramouche at 8:00 AM, The Red Lily at 10:00 AM, Across to Singapore at 11:30 AM, The Pagan at 1:15 PM, Devil May Care at 2:45 PM, The Son-Daughter at 4:30 PM, The Cat and the Fiddle at 6:15 PM, Ben-Hur at 8:00 PM, The Student Prince in Old Heidelberg at 10:30 PM, Mata Hari at 12:30 AM, The Night is Young at 2:15 AM, and Crisis at 4:00 AM.

August 9:  With Steve McQueen day, we get Somebody Up There Likes Me at 6:00 AM, The Magnificent Seven at 11:45 AM, Bullitt at 4:00 PM, and The Blob at 4:30 AM.

August 10:  I love Lana Turner so I am definitely looking forward to this day.  They Won’t Forget at 6:00 AM, Rich Man, Poor Man at 7:45 AM, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde at 9:00 AM, Johnny Eager at 11:00 AM, The Postman Always Rings Twice at 1:00 PM, Green Dolphin Street at 3:00 PM, Ziegfeld Girl at 5:30 PM, The Bad and the Beautiful at 8:00 PM, Imitation of Life at 10:15 PM, Peyton Place at 12:30 AM, and The Three Musketeers at 3:30 AM.

August 11:  Prime time has some real Henry Fonda essentials — The Grapes of Wrath at 8:00 PM, Fail-Safe at 10:30 PM, and Mister Roberts at 12:30 AM.

August 12:  Just like every Summer Under the Stars showcases one silent film star, they also feature a foreign star every year and this year’s foreign star is the lovely Catherine Deneuve.  Le Petit Poucet at 6:00 AM, Repulsion at 7:45 AM, Mississippi Mermaid at 9:45 AM, Un Flic at 12:00 PM, Le Sauvage at 2:00 PM, The Last Metro at 4:00 PM, I’m Going Home at 6:15 PM, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg at 8:00 PM, Tristana at 10:00 PM, Ma Saison Préférée at 12:00 AM, Belle de Jour at 2:15 AM, and The Hunger at 4:15 AM.

August 13:  I’m happy to see several of my favorite Mickey Rooney movies will be on today — Boys Town at 11:00 AM, Strike Up the Band at 1:00 PM, Girl Crazy at 8:00 PM, The Human Comedy at 10:00 PM, and Requiem for a Heavyweight at 12:15 AM.

August 14:  I’m always up for a Bette Davis day!  Today we get Parachute Jumper at 6:00 AM (which I’ve always wanted to see just because Bette has said so often what a terrible movie it is), The Girl from Tenth Avenue at 7:30 AM, Dangerous at 9:00 AM, Stardust: The Bette Davis Story at 10:30 AM, Jezebel at 12:00 PM, The Letter at 2:00 PM, Now Voyager at 3:45 PM, Watch on the Rhine at 5:45 PM, Bette’s interview with Johnny Carson at 7:45 PM, Ex-Lady at 8:00 PM, Dark Victory at 9:15 PM, The Man Who Came to Dinner at 11:15 PM, Bette on the Dick Cavett show at 1:15 AM, Payment on Demand at 2:30 AM, and The Nanny at 4:15 AM.

August 15:  Plenty of great stuff on for Gregory Peck day.  Spellbound at 11:15 AM, Designing Woman at 1:15 PM, and I’m interested in checking out the TCM premiere of The Macomber Affair at 8:00 PM.

August 16:  Happy 85th birthday to Ann Blyth!  If you’ve never seen it, you must see her unforgettable performance opposite Joan Crawford in Mildred Pierce at 8:00 PM.

August 17:  For Wallace Beery day, we get two of the ultimate all-star movies — Grand Hotel at 8:00 PM and Dinner at Eight at 10:00 PM.  I’m looking forward to seeing Min and Bill for the first time at 12:00 AM.  Also worth staying up for (or setting the DVR for) is China Seas at 3:15 AM.

August 18:  It’s Natalie Wood day!  The Star at 6:00 AM, A Cry in the Night at 7:30 AM, West Side Story at 9:00 AM, The Searchers at 11:45 AM, Rebel Without a Cause at 1:45 PM, Splendor in the Grass at 3:45 PM, Sex and the Single Girl at 6:00 PM, The Great Race at 8:00 PM, Gypsy at 11:00 PM, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice at 1:30 AM, and Inside Daisy Clover at 3:30 AM,

August 31:  Rex Harrison gets to be the final star featured in 2013′s Summer Under the Stars line-up.  The Citadel at 9:30 AM, My Fair Lady at 5:00 PM, and Anna and the King of Siam at 8:00 PM.
