Basic operating system 6: planned features
Refined visual appearance
To make the look and feel of the basic operating system more attractive, OS 6 has updated the user interface including the system typography and stylesheet. Subsequently, it improved the contrast of the elementary operating system while maintaining its signature depth and shadows.
Thanks to Libhandy's HdyWindow, you'll also discover sleek design in apps like Terminal which now have a rounded bottom corner. For system components such as the Dock, panel indicators, and system dialogs, the dark style is Work in Progress (WIP).
Application updates
Communication and organization applications such as mail and calendar events are receiving major updates to enable data synchronization with a wider variety of account providers. It even rewrote its Mail app which now relies on Evolution data servers instead of the custom Geary messaging engine.
The new Tasks application also manages local task lists and all task lists synchronized with the Evolution data server on the backend.
More multi-touch support
Using the Libhandy library, the elementary operating system brings in more gestures to make its application highly accessible using touchscreens, trackpads and mouse scroll wheels. For example, you can use the swipe track with your fingers on the screen or the trackpad to go back in the Epiphany web browser.
