I sure wouldn’t want to have to decide on a person’s fate, whether their crime deserves death or not.  Personally, I dress in shades of brown and wear my hair out in an afro on my jury duty days just so I look like someone you don’t want on your panel.   Maryland’s Senate seems to feel the same way according to the Capital Gazette, “After more than two hours of debate, the Maryland Senate voted for the repeal on Wednesday, 27-20. The bill would make Maryland the 18th state to abolish the death penalty. Under its terms, the most severe punishment in Maryland would be life without parole.”

 ”House Speaker Michael E. Busch, D-Annapolis, said after the Senate’s decision that ‘the votes are there’ for the measure to pass the House. If the repeal passes, opponents are expected to launch a petition drive for a referendum, as happened with same-sex marriage last year.”

Prince George’s County (Brandywine) native Rock Newman is back and blazing the airwaves with a new Rock Newman Show at the We Act Radio Station, WPWC 1480 AM, in Anacostia.  His first guests were former D.C. mayors Marion Barry, now a council member in Ward 8, and Anthony Williams; D.C. Shadow Senator Paul Strauss; Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker IV; and one of his predecessors, Wayne K. Curry, the first African-American elected county executive in Prince George’s County. Former Mayor Sharon Pratt phoned in. Current Mayor Vincent Gray pre-recorded a message to Newman’s listeners.”  I’m not sure why Mayor Vincent Gray couldn’t bring his narrow tail to the table but this is YET another reason why the city and surrounding area has a disdain for him.  Afro Newspaper has a good story.  READ IT HERE.
I didn’t know that Queen Elizabeth II once shopped at any Giant Food in the world but according to the Hyattsville Patch, she shopped at our humble store at least once, but not even that piece of history could save the store from closing though.  “According to a press release issued this evening from the Landover-based Giant Food, the store will be closing at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013. The in-store pharmacy will be ceasing operations earlier, on Wednesday, March 27 at 6 p.m.”
