Dharna is the first step inwards in the journey of Yoga.
The Sanskrit word Dharana has two roots Dha and ana which means to hold.
This hold means hold as part of you that you become one with it.
It helps reach the stage “EkagraChitta” or concentration.
Fixing the mind on a subject/object is the practice of concentration. It is setting the mind on the Navel Plexus, Heart Plexus, on The nose tip, on The tip of the tongue, on The root of the incisors, on The third eye centre, etc. and pondering over Aum with every single breath.
If one finds it difficult to focus on major chakras then it is recommended to start with focusing on a point/picture on the wall. Then divide that object into two parts and concentrate on half. Keep dividing that remaining part and in the end, there will be minute subtle part in the concentration. Remove that as well and the concentration will take place. It may take a few hours to a few days depending upon the one’s dedication.
