What is Ceiling Induction Beam (CIB) – Case Study

Posted on the 16 February 2022 by Ebaircontrol @ebaircontrol

In simple terms, Ceiling Induction Beam (CIB) is a ceiling-mounted high-capacity air terminal unit with no moving parts. Ventilated air is brought to the interior space after mixing with room air creating a conditioned space with low humidity content. Essentially designed for classrooms, it is presently used in hospitals, patient care, operating rooms, offices, laboratories and many more.

Ceiling Induction Beam (CIB): Effective design for Interior Ventilation Case Study

CIBTreated Primary air from the CIB is released through special nozzles, inducting room air through a cooling/heating coil which offsets sensible load from occupants, lights, equipment solar gain as well space heating.

The design and flow characteristics of CIB follow a linear pattern of downflow providing optimum envelope at all corners of the room.

Recently EB Air received an order to retrofit a medical research building of a large University in the United State of Nashville. Although the unit was to be installed on the ceiling after careful analysis was made to ascertain that downflow velocity and throw meet a set standard thereby not causing excess velocity, flow-induced noise and vibration.

EB Air unit was tested at the site to ascertain operating conditions to validate all the above points. Specified linear throw grilles were designed to allow supply air to make a curvature than straight flow down.

With energy savings through seasons, minimal maintenance, and the built-in fail-safe option to capture condensate, CIB is becoming a great choice for buildings and critical facilities. With EB Air’s optional offered smart features, these units can be controlled real-time basis connected to most Building Management Systems (BMS).
