Introduction
Basically, ama is the toxins that are produced in our body. These toxins in excessive amount give birth to various diseases. Ama is a form of un-metabolized waste. This waste can’t be utilized by our body. The formation of a small amount of Ama in the digestive system is normal But when the amount of Ama increases, it causes different problems.

Ama is the root cause of the formation of various diseases. When the eating habits of an individual is not proper, digestive power is low, overeating, poor diet, unnecessary craving, eating habits, etc. these all aggravate the Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas. It causes an imbalance in the channels, weak digestive fire that ultimately creates ama in the body.
What are the signs and symptoms of Aama?
The various signs and symptoms of Aama are:

There are different types of diseases that are formed due to the presence of Aama in the body. These diseases are Gout, atherosclerosis, gall stones, diabetes, kidney stones, blood urea, depression, rheumatoid arthritis, liver disorders, glaucoma, fever, tumors, leukocytosis, overgrowth of Candida albicans, etc.

What are the main causes of Aama formation?
There are different reasons that cause the formation of Aama like:
- Eating heavy food items.
- Including fried foods in your diet
- Overeating
- Using highly sugary food items.
- Including excess of salty, sweet, or sour food items in your diet.
- Inadequate exercise.
- Having irregular eating habits.
- Sleeping at daytime.
- Excessive stress
- Unresolved emotions
There are specific types of Aama:
Vata Aama:
- In this type of Aama when vata dosha mixes, it gets accumulated into the pelvic cavity and lower abdominal area. It causes dryness in the mouth, astringent taste of mouth, constipation, pain, bloating, dry skin, Bodyache, congestion. Vata Aama produces disorders like arthritis, diverticulitis, and sciatica, etc.
Pitta Aama:
- If Pitta dosha affects Aama it accumulates in the central abdominal region, that further causes stagnation in liver, gall bladder, and small intestines. When Pitta Aama circulates in the blood it causes offensive smell, bitter, and sour taste of mouth. This type of Aama causes indigestion, heartburn, nausea, diarrhea, rashes, fever, other skin disorders, liver disorders, and blood infections, etc.
Kapha Aama:
- When this type of Aama accumulates in the chest, lungs, sinuses, and lungs it produces sticky, foul-smelling, cloudy mucus that make the mouth sweet or salty in taste. Kapha Aama leads to cough, cold, mucus formation, sinus congestion, tenderness, and lymphatic congestion, etc.
Some important tips that will eliminate and digest Aama:
- Therapeutic herbs play an important role: There are various herbs that will deal with the formation of Aama. The herbs like Ginger, garlic, coriander, fennel, and black pepper give amazing results in digesting the Aama.
- Take Sun bath: When our skin exposes to sunlight it gives good results for health issues like arthritis, depression, eczema, psoriasis, and water retention problems.
- Excessive sweat: Sweating is the best way to reduce Aama. Sweat helps in thinning the Aama that loosens the grip on tissues, moves this to the digestive tract, in the end, it eliminates out.

आमेन तेन सम्पृक्ता दोषा दुष्याश्च दूषिता।
सामा इत्युपदिश्यन्ते ये च रोगासतदुद्भवा। (अ। हृ। सू १३ /२७ )
This shloka represents that Aama causes imbalance of dosha (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) and Dushyas. When these all are imbalanced it gives rise to different diseases.
अपचयमानं शुक्तवं यात्य अन्नं विष रूप ताम। (च। चि १५ /४४ )
This shloka represents that the undigested food causes dryness, this food act as a poison. In short, all the toxins are accumulated in the body with the undigested food.
Aamvatantak Churna by Planet Ayurveda:

This herbal churna is prepared from herbs like Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Methi (Trigonella foenum graecum), Gorakhmundi (Sphaeranthus indicus), Haridra (Curcuma longa), Suranjaan (Colchicum automnale), Sonth (Zingiber officinale) that gives effective results in Aama.

Recommended Dosage: One teaspoonful of Aamvatantak Churna twice daily with lukewarm water half an hour after meals or you can boil one teaspoonful of this powder in 500ml water until remaining 50ml. Strain the mixture and drink this decoction twice daily after meals.
