What is a “Lookbook”? {And why you should care.}
Today, I would like to talk about the term “lookbook” and what exactly that means. In the fashion design world it is a collection of photographs showing the designers line and how it should be worn or represented. I don’t know about you, but I definitely do not dress as if I am strait off the runway. This is meant to be a source of fashion and outfit inspiration, to get your creative juices flowing, {and definitely not to be taken literally}.
As a Visual Merchandiser, planograms are used to place clothing and/or goods per company standards in a retail environment. When the mannequins or bust forms are dressed a lookbook and planogram is used. A lot of time and planning goes into merchandising a store. And if you think you can never pull off what the bust forms are wearing, think again.
You can be the next hottest thing, you just need some inspiration. Only you can create your own sense of personal style, from things and places that inspire you! Which is why lookbooks should be your ultimate guide for outfit inspiration, {aside from here of course!}
Do you have an awesome pair of printed pants but you have no idea what to wear them with? Where do you go??
Go to any big retailers website. Whether it’s Nordstrom, or any other big name designer you love, they usually have a section or tab that says upcoming trends or lookbooks. I love Zara’s lookbooks every season here. Forever 21 even has a “shop by look” showing you exactly what to pair with each item {here}.
