What Is a “French” Wardrobe And Will It Help Your Style?

By Kravelv

Everyone needs a wardrobe to keep an array of clothes in, something that is fitting for every possible occasion.  Of course, choosing the right wardrobe is a big decision, it needs to match the room you’ve designed and be big enough to accommodate your clothes, without overpowering the room.

The good news is that there are an array of French wardrobes perfectly suited to the task, simply choose the one you like most.

What Is a “French” Wardrobe And Will It Help Your Style?

But, that’s not the only definition of a French wardrobe. For many people a French wardrobe refers to a set of clothes that are kept, the aim is to ensure you have something for every occasion. The question really is whether this is possible or will those clothes go out of style, leaving you looking unfashionable and perhaps even dowdy?

Contents Of A French Wardrobe

The classic French wardrobe consists of the following garments:

  • Black and white, or blue and white, striped top
  • Trench coat
  • Standard white blouse
  • Skinny jeans
  • Dark-colored blazer
  • Black stilettos
  • Black leather jacket

In many ways, this can be considered the basic items required for any woman’s wardrobe.

The purpose is simple, you’ll be able to choose something from these garments that can make you look stylish, trendy, and feel good at almost any occasion. Obviously, events with strict formal wear policies don’t count.

That leads to the real question, should you adhere to the French Wardrobe?

A Simple Answer

The simple answer is no. You need to dress to your own style, these specific garments can’t necessarily reflect your own style. Or can they?

If you open your wardrobe doors you’ll probably find the wardrobe is crammed full of different clothes. Each of these will reflect the mood you were in when you purchased it and many of them will never be got rid of, even if you hardly wear them.

However, when you start to consider what you really wear you’ll probably realize that a white blouse can go with anything, as can skinny jeans and black stilettos. That’s good enough for a night out or a date at the cinema. As long as the heels aren’t too big you can even go for a walk in the park.

Even a minority fashion, such as Goths, could make something from this type of wardrobe. Skinny black jeans, a black leather jacket, black stilettos? Add the black and white striped top half-hidden under the jacket and you’ve got the goth look.

Perhaps that’s the real point of the ‘French wardrobe’. Skip the word French and it becomes a basic selection of clothes that any woman can wear. It could comfortably be your travel kit and you wouldn’t need to take anything else. Keeping it personal is about adding the right makeup and accessories, that’s what makes anything personal and the reason that the French wardrobe remains a relevant choice today.

Now, back to choose the right wardrobe to hang these clothes in.
