I mentioned in this post (and on Instagram) that I bought this dress but it was too long. It's an uneven hem, and while parts were okay, the longer pieces were a good 6″ dragging on the floor, even in high heels. I used a YouTube tutorial to hem the dress (this was easy because the chiffon isn't too slippery, only one layer, and had a separate knee-length slip that didn't need a hem) and think it turned out pretty well. I decided to make it a bit short as I saw it on the model at Nordstrom so I could wear it with shorter heels.

What I Wore: Fashion With An Impact
I wore this look to Fashion With an Impact, a fashion experience hosted by PopNod and DC Style Factory that celebrated those who are at the forefront of style and social good, while launching a clothing campaign to support Urban Alliance. Featuring outfits from Betsy Fisher, DC Style Factory styled work ready looks incorporating the season's latest styles for men and women.

Proceeds from tickets sales went toUrban Alliance, an amazing organization that empowers under-resourced youth to aspire, work and succeed through paid internships, formal training, and mentorship. I was so inspired by this organization; I encourage you to learn more about Urban Alliance and see if maybe your company would be able to participate in their successful and rewarding internship program!

PopNod is a pretty cool company. Through its site or app, you can purchase one of more than 500,000 items from popular retailers and a portion of your order is automatically donated to the cause of your choice. Fashion With an Impact kicked off PopNod's campaign for The Urban Alliance; encouraging donors to purchase brand new clothing items on PopNod and donate them to Urban Alliance interns entering the professional workplace. PopNod founder and friend Stephanie David believes that everyone can make an impact, and no act of giving back is too small, "I think that people sometimes feel uncomfortable to give back if they don't have large amounts to give. Much like small acts of kindness, the little gives can add up to a whole lot more without you even realizing it. For example, as little as $1 will provide a hot, nutritious meal for a child in need. If a single person donated one dollar every week, or a thousand people donated one dollar-imagine the impact."
