Youjo Senki
I meant to start watching this back in January when it first started airing but for some reason, I was rarely at home when not working (never a bad thing!) and so never got round to it. It recently finished though, and so I took great pleasure in chain-watching the series in three sittings. I’ve not watched a war-centric anime in absolutely ages but Youjo Senki proved a great way to ease myself back in. The tale tells of a curious girl with even more curious powers and is a supernatural, magic kinda thing. Totally recommended.Goblin
I’m sad every single day that I’ve finished watching Goblin. I didn’t begin to feel obsessed with it until episode 4 but it’s free-fall from there. Starring two of my favorite actors of the moment (Gong Yoo and Kim Go-eun), the story brings historical dramas together with the more popular K-drama format. Gong Yoo plays an immortal goblin and protector of souls from Korean folklore who is now living his immortal life in the present day. He meets a girl who is supposedly destined to become his wife. The rest of the story is endearing, irreverently funny and full of those hopeless romantic scenes that ‘make’ a K-drama. The soundtrack is pretty incredible and it’s not hard to see why this was such a popular series!Lock Up
One of my biggest guilty pleasures at the moment is the Lock Up series on Netflix. What is it about the prison taboo that instantly draws you in?! I’m watching the Women Behind Bars series at the moment but I’ve also watched the others. It makes for a really insightful watch full of stories of the inmates and makes Orange Is The New Black look less crazy!No Game No Life
Harvey couldn’t believe it when I told him I’d never watched No Game No Life. If you’re into Sword Art Online, Btooom! and that kinda anime, you’ll LOVE this one, I promise. It centres around a sibling duo that are crazy good at games who must then play and win games in order to survive a parallel universe. It’s a 12-episode short anime that I guarantee you’ll finish in just a few sittings.Seitokai no Ichizon
Right after my birthday, I had a dalliance with Seitokai no Ichizon. I watched an entire series in a day and then proceeded to watch the second season in another. I KNOW. This is one of those cutesy, slice-of-life, schoolgirl anime that are my secret guilty pleasure. It reminded me of Lucky Star and I’d happily watch it again although some episodes could be seen as problematic as it also has a running harem theme.What are you watching lately?
What I’m Watching Lately
10.4.17 Do you ever feel like you’re in a work rut and spend your evenings enthusiastically curled up in bed Netflix-ing in abundance? Me. Too. In fact, that’s almost all I’d been doing towards the latter part of March as work was so overwhelming that I barely left my house. However it means I’ve racked up a pretty solid list of recommendations to share on here and who can believe it’s been several weeks since my last edition of these?! Right now I’m over the MOON at Attack on Titan season two being released and I’m watching Jane the Virgin on my friend Hannah’s recommendation. PS. I watch all of my anime via KissAnime and K-dramas via KissAsian, Viki or Crunchyroll, for those who’re constantly asking.Here are some things you should be watching:
