As we enter October, many Americans continue to wonder when their long-delayed travel plans will be possible. If you’re looking to get out of the country — and soon! — we’ve got you covered. Don’t forget to pack your mask and hand sanitizer, and take several vacation days (hello arrival quarantine). Here are the countries that are opening up in October to Americans.
Mexico: Mexican Airports are open for American tourists with health checks and sanitation procedures in place. Land borders are still essential-travel only until at least 10/21/2020.
Puerto Rico: While PR is not technically out of the country, it’s still a great place to indulge your desire for a tropical escape. American visitors with a negative COVID-19 PCR test (taken within 72 hours) are welcome to enjoy the beaches, provided they undergo health checks and understand they may be asked to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
The U.S. Virgin Islands: St. Croix, St. John, St. Thomas, et. al. are all open for business — provided you test negative for COVID. Masks are required and beaches are open!
Antigua and Barbuda: Both islands are open to U.S. tourists, with strict health checks in place. If you choose to travel here, be sure to budget for the COVID test you’ll be required to take upon arrival.
Aruba: Aruba is open to American visitors with some caveats. You’ll need to have a negative PCR test within 72 hours or arrival, special health insurance, and possibly undergo additional testing and quarantine prior to entering the country.
Photo Credit: PixabayBahamas: Open, but you’ll need to provide a “Bahamas Health Visa,” have a negative PCR test (taken within the last five days), plus you’ll be required to complete a 14-day quarantine period at your lodging.
Barbados: U.S. travelers may come to Barbados if they have a recent (within 72 hours) PCR test, have completed an online ED card, test negative upon arrival at their own expense, and adhere to country-wide health checks and protocols.
Bermuda: Americans are welcome to visit Bermuda! But first, you must go online to complete their Travel Authorisation form, have a PCR COVID-19 test, and adhere to face-mask guidelines during and after travel.
Cayman Islands: The Cayman Islands are semi-open to Americans, but only those who have dual citizenship, own a home in the country, or are visiting for business related to a long-term work arrangement.
Cuba: Cuba remains under a “do not travel” advisory from the U.S. state dept., but visitors from America who fall under approved limitations imposed by the government are allowed to travel to the country.
Dominica: Americans may travel to Dominica if they’ve completed their health questionnaire online, have a negative PCR test result, and are cleared by a health professional.

Haiti: Haiti is reopened to all international travelers, but everyone who enters the country must complete a 14-day self-quarantine.
Jamaica: Jamaica is allowing American tourists who provide a pre-travel health authorization registration, customs, and immigration form, submit to health check upon arrival, are prepared to quarantine if they show symptoms, and adhere to all local procedures. U.S. visitors specifically must have a negative PCR test taken within 10 days of arrival.
St. Barths: Americans who visit St. Barths must have a negative PCR test within 72 hours of arrival and if staying longer than a week, must pay to undergo additional testing.
St. Lucia: U.S. visitors are welcome with a negative PCR test taken within 2 days of arrival, and you’ll have to complete additional screenings once you’re there.
St. Vincent/The Grenadines: St. Vincent and the Grenadines are open to Americans who complete a coronavirus questionnaire, present a negative PCR test result from within 5 days of arrival, and provide proof of 10 days of fully paid lodging/quarantine lodgings.
Turks and Caicos: U.S. citizens may visit Turks and Caicos if they have a negative PCR test taken within 5 days of arrival.

Armenia: Armenia is welcoming U.S. travelers who have a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of arrival, or who will self-quarantine for two weeks after arrival.
Croatia: Croatia is open to American tourists. You’ll need a negative PCR test dated within 48 hours of departure, or be subject to a 14-day quarantine.
Cyprus: Cyprus is cordially open to U.S. travelers; only those who have already quarantined in another nearby country are allowed to enter.
Ireland: Americans may travel to Ireland but must self-quarantine for two weeks upon arrival.
Montenegro: Americans may visit Montenegro if they have a negative PCR test taken within “72 hours or a positive coronavirus antibody test result (SARS-CoV-2) of the IgG class obtained by ELISA serologic test not older than 72 hours.”
North Macedonia: North Macedonia is open to U.S. travelers with only temperature checks required.
Serbia: Serbia is open to U.S. travelers with no restrictions at the moment, but visitors are advised that conditions may change.

Turkey: U.S. travelers are welcome in Turkey but may be subject to health checks and possible quarantine.
United Kingdom: The U.K. is tentatively open to American visitors with a mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival.
Scotland: Like the United Kingdom, Scotland is allowing U.S. citizens to enter the country after a 14-day quarantine.
Belize: American travelers need a negative COVID-19 PCR test dated within 72 hours or must undergo a health check upon arrival. If you show symptoms, you’ll be quarantined. Also, you must have a reservation at an approved resort with private transportation and health protocols.
Costa Rica: Residents of select U.S. states can visit Costa Rica with a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours.
Honduras: Americans can visit Honduras if they fill out the official government form and have a negative PCR test taken within two days prior to arrival.
Brazil: No restrictions to tourists from any country barring health insurance. The U.S. government is advising against travel to Brazil at this time.
Colombia: Americans are welcome in Colombia with a negative PCR test dated within 96 hours of arrival to the country.
Ecuador: U.S. travelers may come to Ecuador with a negative PCR test taken within 10 days — those who don’t have this documentation will be subject to quarantine.
Cambodia: Cambodia is open to Americans with strict regulations. You’ll need a negative COVID test taken within 3 days of arrival, have to quarantine for 14 days, and have$50,000 worth of health insurance coverage
The Maldives: U.S. tourists can vacation in The Maldives if they have a negative PCR test taken within 3 days of arrival, complete an online health survey, and provide proof of lodgings.

Uzbekistan: Americans with a visa and negative PCR test taken within 72 hours can enter Uzbekistan
French Polynesia: U.S. visitors can come to French Polynesia with a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours, proof of international travel insurance, a medical certificate, and may be subject to additional testing.
Jordan: Americans can visit Jordan if they are approved for a visa, are accepted via an electronic application, have health insurance, have a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of arrival, and download the country’s health tracking app.
Egypt: Americans can travel to Egypt if they are approved for a visa and have a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of arrival.
Kenya: U.S. tourists can enter Kenya with a negative PCR test taken within 96 hours of arrival and must undergo a health screening upon arrival. The U.S. The State Department discourages travel to this country.

Morocco: Americans can go to Morocco with a negative PCR test dated within 2 days of arrival.
Namibia: Americans can enter Namibia with a negative COVID-19 test and have to stay at their lodging for 1 week upon arrival.
Nigeria: U.S. visitors to Nigeria must present a negative PCR test taken within 96 hours of arrival, fill out a health questionnaire, and submit to additional testing after 7 days in the country.
Rwanda: Rwanda is fully open to American visitors.
Tanzania: Tanzania is fully open to American visitors.
Zambia: The U.S. state department advises against travel to Zambia, but you can if you want to!
Zimbabwe: Zimbabwe is open to Americans with “a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) COVID-19 clearance certificate issued by a recognized facility within 48 hours from the date of departure.”
