After releasing two of the most vibrant songs of the year – and featuring on so many Top Tips for 2022 lists – Wet Leg have shared the video for new single ‘Too Late Now’ and announced details of their debut album, also called ‘Wet Leg’, which will be out on 8 April via Domino.

‘Too Late Now’ finds the Isle of Wight duo – Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers – trying to figure out this thing called life and all its wild emotions: ‘It is about sleepwalking into adulthood. I never imagined that my adult life would look the way it does and I guess this song reflects on some of the pressures and pulls of life. Sometimes I get really inside my head and everything can feel very overwhelming. I think this song is about accepting that life can feel a bit shit from time to time. Maybe don’t indulge that thought too much though. Just take some time for yourself. Take a breath. Have a bath. It might make you feel a bit better.’

Opening with more sombre guitar hooks that recall Life Without Buildings or latter-day The Maccabees, the song finds the duo discussing the relentless nature of the modern world and it’s always-on nature – from online dating (‘I don’t need no dating app to tell me if I look like crap, to tell me if I’m thin or fat, too tell me should I shave my rat’) to keeping up with all the latest TV streams and how it can be overwhelming. As they up the tempo and the song heads into more of an emo-pop direction, the band praise the power of a good bubble bath and how it can ‘set me on a higher path’, even if ‘everything is going wrong’.
