The Western Province Team secured their place in the Cup final of the SLR Under-24 League Rugby Tournament when they defeated North Western Province 30-10 in the deciding game played at the Air Force SC Grounds in Ratmalana yesterday.
Western Province were trailing 7-12 at half time but recovered magnificently to turn the game in their favour while collecting their points from three goals and three penalties.
North Western Province, of course, took the initiative and scored a goal and one try in the first half but they lost the momentum and managed to score only one try after the turnaround.
Meanwhile, Southern Province outplayed North Central Province 47-9 in another SLR Under-24 League Rugby Tournament match played at St. Aloysius’ College Grounds in Galle yesterday.
The winners scored six goals and one try while North Central managed to put over only three penalties.
