In 35 states across America, welfare pays more than a minimum wage job, which might explain why welfare rolls are at the highest levels they have ever been. It pays to not work is the new American policy.
In 13 of the 35 states, welfare benefits equal more than $15 a hour.
According to Michael Tanner, senior policy analyst and co-author of the new study "One of the single best ways to climb out of poverty is taking a job, but as long as welfare provides a better standard of living than an entry-level job, recipients will continue to choose it over work."
We are truly becoming a welfare nation where people no longer work to support themselves, but instead work to support those that won't work.
