Welcome to Carnival De Goa

By Rohit Dassani

Carnival De Goa is a Goan restaurant on the edge of Ulsoor, right across Conrad Hotel. The place is known for its Goan food and ambiance. The whole theme revolves around a carnival which is evident from the wall paintings as well. You can choose to sit outside with a view of the Conrad or inside with the air-condition. The ambiance has been specially curated to keep Goa in mind. We wanted to try most of the dishes on the menu and went ahead to try their cocktails.

The One in a Minion is a combination of Watermelon syrup, coconut syrup and blue curacao. The drink was refreshing and the flavors of watermelon and coconut was subtle. The Incredible Hulk – has Blue curacao, peach and apricot crush. Good but was very sugary. The Finding Nemo is great for parties and large gatherings with Blue Curacao, triple sec and lime juice.

Sweet Potato Fritters are little batter deep fried snack made with sweet potatoes. They just came and vanished from the table. The Raw Banana Fritters could have been better as there wasn’t any prominent flavors from the banana. The Brinjal Peri Peri is an excellent preparation which was sweet and spicy at the same time. Couldn’t imagine that brinjal could taste so different and unique. The Goan Paneer Chilly is another amazing dish with soft paneer tossed with Goan chillies. Loved it!

For the main course we tried the Goan Chilli Paneer Pizza. This pizza is filled with topping of Goan chilli Paneer, onions, tomato and other veggies. It was only of the best spicy pizza I have ever had. The Paneer Xacuti was served with Neer Dosa, white rice and Goan Poi (pao). The Paneer gravy was made with loads of coconut which made the gravy rich. The combination with Neer dosa and poi was excellent as well.

When it comes to desserts, Goan has Bebinca to offer. The best thing about the Bebinca here was the fact that it was not too eggy and is served with vanilla icecream. The Caramel Custard is yet another Goan delight. The pudding is served with a watery caramel syrup. But the best was their Dodol with icecream. This Goan pudding is made with jaggery and the combination with icecream was amazing.

Overall, a great dinner at Carnival de Goa. The place needs to work on their drinks but the food is amazing.
