Welcome the Year of the Monkey with Some Golden Chinese Classics

So bring out the Mandarin oranges, bust out some lion dance moves, and get ready to TONG-TONG-TONG-CHIANG your way to a prosperous new year with iflix. HUAT AH! Welcome the Year of the Monkey with Some Golden Chinese ClassicsBut a wise man also says, "No new year celebration can be complete without visiting relatives and REVISITING these golden Chinese classics."

After reading this message from , I remembered my fascination towards Chinese culture especially their martial arts films. Though this type of films have a special place in my heart, I won't forget my other favourites such as Mr. Vampire franchise directed by Ricky Lau and was produced by Sammo Hung as well as The Happy Ghost franchise directed by Clifton Ko and was produced and written by Raymond Wong.

From those films, I started to broaden my horizon by watching more Chinese films. I was extremely happy when Star Mandarin became available on SkyCable. With that, I discovered more great actors. Besides Alexander Fu Sheng, Bruce Lee, Fei Meng, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Raymond Wong Pak-ming, Sammo Hung, and Wu Ma, I also found out about Andy Lau, Anita Mui, Charlene Choi, Cecilia Cheung, Gillian Chung, Nicholas Tse, Sammi Cheng, Stephen Chow, and Zhao Wei.

With this fascination, I took the chance and chose Mandarin for my Foreign Language subject in college. Good thing I watched several films which made it easier for me to learn the language.

After the spoken Mandarin, I took up written Mandarin on the second semester. It was truly difficult. Though there is a stroke to follow, there are some Chinese characters that have many lines/ strokes. Look at the photo below.

I know. My penmanship isn't great. According to my Chinese friend, it's cute like a child's handwriting. :) Once I get the hang of it, it will get better...

Well... It got easier. But the penmanship is still the same. :)

Anyway! To welcome the Year of the Monkey, I will relive my love for Chinese film especially now that it's available online. But first, I must cook my favourite Chinese New Year cake theneat it while watching some Chinese Classics this coming long weekend.
