My big news is that I’ve started sewing again and I couldn’t be happier about it. It’s almost like when you pick up a really good book and can’t stop reading, only to look over and realize it’s 1:00 a.m. That’s how I feel about sewing–bummer when I have to stop to be responsible about getting up for work the next day!
The blue painter’s tape are my “notes to self” about various buttons and dials. I got the machine as a present when I graduated from college. I spent all summer sewing and making cute things for my apartment, but then law school started and I’m embarrassed to say that it’s now been 10 years since I’ve used it! The good thing is that most of it is coming back to me, and I have a great sewing coach (my step mom) just down the street. So stay tuned for a few sewing-related home decor projects on the blog.
My mom and my aunt had a group garage sale this weekend that I helped with. Which means I also got to dig through some cool vintage stuff I didn’t know they had. Like this brand new vintage Mah Jongg Set. You can’t tell from this photo, but the box itself is the most amazing color pink with an embossed crocodile texture. I’m pretty sure it belongs on the set of a Wes Anderson movie.
Even the tiles inside are beautiful.

I also bought a Louis chair this weekend for $30 from my aunt’s neighbor (similar to the one above) that I’m going to paint and (attempt to) reupholster on my own. I’m feeling like it’s doable now that I’m sewing again and have some good upholstery book resources on hand. And, I’ve been gravitating towards some more traditional pieces and I think this one will look good in our living room. Lately I’ve been worried that our living room looks too much like what I imagine a Palm Springs getaway house owned by Elton John (if one existed) must look like. I think adding a few more traditional elements and deeper colors will help ground the space and get the balance I’m looking for (btw, I’m on the hunt for some curtains/fabric that will rival the coolness factor of our dining room wallpaper).

I’ve also been working on a mini-overhaul for our upstairs hallway and landing area. I’m thinking about doing a floor to ceiling gallery wall using all of my thrifted Neilsen frames, which I’ve slowly been filling with photos and art.
That the latest here. Hope you have a wonderful week!
XO,
Heather
