Weekend Box Office: ‘Unbroken’ and ‘Woods’ Neck and Neck

Posted on the 29 December 2014 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

The Hobbit remained on top this weekend. Unbroken overperformed, and even beat out Into The Woods by a little bit. However, Into The Woods had a better per screen average, 12K vs 10K. The Imitation Game maintained a high PSA of 10K despite expanding. The Interview had a PSA of 5,471 on 331 screens, more than double that of Big Eyes (2,285), and the fifth highest PSA in the Top 16. American Sniper, though, wins the per screen prize with 152K per screen, settin a new Christmas weekend record. Selma was strong too, at 31K per screen, but pales in comparison to Sniper. Other Oscar bait films still in limited release did well. Mr Turner did 10K per screen, Inherent Vice pulled in 12K, and Whiplash is still doing 2K.
