1) Transformers 4- 37M 3 Day Weekend, 54M 5 Day Weekend, 175M total
Transformers is going to see quite a large drop, around 60% from last weekend. However, it is still far and away the largest draw in theatres. Tammy put up a little bit of a fight, but not nearly enough needed to dethrone the king.
2) Tammy- 21M 3 Day Weekend, 32M 5 Day Weekend, 32M Total
21M is a respectable 3 day opening for a Melissa McCarthy starring comedy. It’s not an amazing opening, but most of her films rely on a co-star opposite her. Even though her star is rising, this pic wasn’t strong enough to take her solo debut to new heights. With a C+ cinemascore (that’s really low for a cinemascore), Tammy won’t play well in the coming weeks. Look for bad word of mouth to travel fast. It’s the lowest cinemascore for a wide release since (I believe) The Quiet Ones.
3/4) How To Train Your Dragon 2- 9.8M 3 Day Weekend, 14M 5 Day Weekend, 141M Total
3/4) 22 Jump Street- 9.6M 3 Day Weekend, 14M 5 Day Weekend, 157M Total
These two are neck and neck this weekend. It’ll be a photo finish when all the numbers are reported.
5/6) Earth to Echo- 9.3M 3 Day Weekend, 13M 5 Day Weekend, 13M Total
5/6) Deliver Us From Evil- 9M 3 Day Weekend, 13M 5 Day Weekend, 13M Total
The other two openers are also basically neck and neck, but Echo has a bit of a lead on Deliver. It should end up with 5th over Evil at 6th. Earth To Echo also fared best with cinemascore this weekend of the new releases, getting an A-. Deliver Us From Evil bested Tammy, landing a B- (which isn’t a great score, but isn’t awful for a horror pic).
7) Maleficent- 6.5M 3 Day Weekend, 9M 5 Day Weekend, 214M Total
8) Jersey Boys- 6.3M 3 Day Weekend, 8M 5 Day Weekend, 38M Total
9) Think Like A Man Too- 4.5M 3 Day Weekend, 6.5M 5 Day Weekend, 57M Total
10) Edge Of Tomorrow- 3.5M 3 Day Weekend, 5M 5 Day Weekend, 90M Total
